The Weekender

Are you ready to get this possibly hectic and devious week of work behind you?  I am and I've been waiting for the weekend since Sunday.  Check the listings for some ideas that will probably make you dance all night long or think about new perspectives, if that's what you're into.

Asterisk: Weekly Queer Co-working

This and every Friday, 12 - 5pm.

@ the Brooklyn Community Pride Center

4 Metrotech (on the corner of Gold and Willoughby, sharing an entrance with SUBWAY restaurant - apparently Google Maps will lead you astray)

Queer Empowerment Project's October Gathering

A communtiy gathering in Queens (queers in Queens?!) is taking place to connect folks and discuss avenues for change and betterment for all queer folkies.

8104 37th Ave, Jackson Heights

  1. Queering Planning Practice for a More Inclusive City, A Panel Discussion
Hosted by the Pop-up Museum of Queer History, the panel will confront history and practice in regards to urban planning in the city from the perspective of communities experiencing seemingly endless gentrification.  It will also make attendees explore the influence of queer spaces within this narrative, suggesting ways to make planning practices more inclusive and transformative.

    1pm - 3pm
    @ The Brooklyn Pride Center
4 Metrotech (wiloughby st. and Gold St)

  2. Perros Calientes, a hot dog tasting competition and fundraiser is trying to find the tastiest (and perhaps, weirdest) hot dog in Brooklyn.  Why should you be excited for this competition? BK Queers + Hot Dog fantasies that come in veggie or beef flavors.  If that hasn't convinced you, showing your Perros Caliente stamp will get you discount entrance to AZUCAR's Gothic Cumbia dance party later ($3).

To top off this savory special, all proceeds are go to a fundraiser for 322 Jefferson, a collaborative Brooklyn film project that explores questions of race, class and queer identities in the context of gentrification and youth culture.

$5 to enter and taste the competition.
Beef and Veggie options of course!

    Sat. Oct 19
    Ontario Bar

The level of excitement I have for this dance party is too damn high (if that's even possible).  After being voted Best Latin party by Go Magazine's Reader Choice Award, you should expect a night infused with latin beats that seduce you onto the dance floor all night.  Don't forget to dress in your best goth for this dark and wonderful night.
