Venice the Series

A new web series in which the main character is a lesbian will debut this Friday evening at 8pm PST and from the looks of the trailer posted on their website as well as the producers' YouTube channel it will be a rewarding ten minutes of your time.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this new series is that it was created by and stars Daytime Emmy Award-winning actress Crystal Chappell, who played Olivia in the now notorious "Otalia" storyline from CBS's Guiding Light. Although Guiding Light, history's longest running drama was canceled in October, its last year drew in thousands of new fans who watched the show's biggest husband stealer Olivia Spencer fall in love with her devoutly Catholic housemate and former arch-rival Natalia Rivera. Chappell was so overwhelmed by the positive response from viewers all over the world that she partnered with her screenwriter friends KIm Turisi and Hope Royaltey to keep some of the energy generated by Otalia alive.

The story, set in and around Venice, California follows the life and loves of Chappell's openly lesbian character Gina and stars many familiar faces from the daytime television world including Jessica Leccia who played Natalia. So far everyone involved is working for free but you can buy Venice the Series T-shirts and undies on their site to support the effort. Chappell, known by many of her fans as "the goddess" has promised in several interviews that there will be plenty of kissing between women. Yum!

So...I had no idea who Otalia were....but thanks to youtube and Otaliafan...I am now up to date! Good stuff....although, I was getting ready to pull out my hair if they kept delaying the inevitable any longer! Geez!!

Otalia>Venice

Hi Mickey06

I know!! I think part of why this Venice web series is so widely anticipated is that everyone who followed Otalia had to take a HUGE cold shower every day. I mean I'm all for foreplay but those two (thanks to Proctor and Gamble's antediluvian censorship clause) gave delayed gratification a whole new meaning. Since Venice has no one to tell the writers what they can and can't show, and since the GL actresses will appear together in a least the first webisode--albeit as different characters--we will finally get some relief!!  Thanks for your comments!

I heard about Otalia from someone on YouTube who lives in England!!  At first I wasn't that into it but I must admit that Crystal Chappell's charms eventually got the better of me Wink

Happy watching!

Thank you, TI...

for Venice! Venice on youtube...it looks great, as do you, sweets!

It appears to be a well made series...is this one way that people are trying to draw interest to their ideas for future series? Write, produce, film and then premier on youtube? Although it's a great inexpensive way to market, it does appaer to be a bit expensive. But then, if it works and the series is picked up by a network....

Dear T Although I think many

Dear T Smile

Although I think many people are using the webisode format to break in to television, the Venice folks seem to be revelling in the anarchy of the internet. Chappell is already gainfully employed on another soap --she's extremely popular -- and the fan base for Venice is already huge and supportive with all sorts of volunteer offers of work, etc. They've also been discussing a subscriber model where people pay a few dollars to access the series on the web. The initial merchandising they did was so successful they've sold out of everything.

We'll know more after tomorrow night though...   <3 The I

count me in

I love the format. There's so much more freedom on the web. The production values look pretty good, too. I'm not a big soap fan (it was all I could do to break a bad One Life to Live addiction in the '80s) but I'll turn in for this one.
