Transition and Transparency
I don’t think Tami was quite prepared for the demands of this newfound amorous lesbian mafia that has descended here. I totally forgot that reading blogs and commenting isn’t just about arguing and debating, but as Minn so aptly pointed out, it’s about flirting!
If there is one thing that has been so inspiring in watching the long Presidential campaign and now his transition was observing the way Barack Obama created an entirely new model in an old world system. I think we should all take a page from his playbook. What he seemed to create during his campaign and in setting up his new administration is, transparency and inclusion.
It’s those principles that I would like to bring to Velvetpark and create a place that you feel is yours.
Kelly McCartney will be online later today with her first post, barring any technical glitches. I’m going to cull through all your technical suggestions and we will come up with a step-by-step plan of execution so you may have some idea of what will happen next and how long that may take. I’m also giving some thought to monetization of Velvetpark so that it may become sustainable and lasting. I believe this is the time we need to think out of the box and redefine ourselves in a new era.

Transparency? whose transparency? ours? like if you go to obama's gov website and they track your ip address and with the help of google technology (cuz google's ceo gets a big position in obama's government and a big damn big brother contract to boot) they know how long you're on the site and what links you click and they leave a damn tracking cookie on your computer and you are assigned a globally unique id? that kind of transparency?

Premium would be determined
Premium would be determined by the women running the site, they know what costs how much. I would imagine things like chat, which are resource intensive (and hence cost a bit) would be a premium service (yeah, I've done some research recently, lol).

Tae, so glad you are working out your 'puter probs. I posted and sent Yams a vid yesterday and the link worked just fine. Vp is def becoming the little engine that could being overhauled to become a sleek machine - I'm about to go buy myself a neck scarf and pair of goggles. When I stick my head out of the window I want to strike a pose - blonde hair and scarf flying with a great big smile! It's going to be a nice, really nice ride......no surprise that GM has hit the ground running with vim and vigor.

How about a combination of a regular free services and a fee based subscription service for premium stuff? This way, those who can't afford to actively participate in every aspect of the site can still access information important to them? Nova M Radio does this, and it seems to be working well for them.

I just posted on your previous update, Grace. It was about "monetization." I think that's a smart way to go--a reminder to all of us that you and everyone else work hard to put this kind of resource together. It costs money and I'm willing to chip in to make it go.
I, too, like how positively you've responded to all of this and the enthusiasm of my faves from OC in jumping right over here to keep it going.
I went to Afterellen.com last night to see what that was like. It's all about entertainment industry and a social networking site as well. Like Tex, I'm more interested in intelligent discourse about what's happening in the world at large, how we fit into it and what we need to say about it.

All teasing aside and down to business.......Please, don't make this site a social networking site - they, honestly, are a dime a dozen. I've had a myspace, a facebook, and an OurChart profile and have 'outgrown' all of them. They have their place, but that's just it - they have their place. A magazine has its place also, and I do hope that this web site for Vp remains an interactive site for virtual feedback for the articles included in the magazine.The gossip, speculations, and manipulations should stay over in the social scene.
That being said, it is my nature to flirt - the most mundane words can spark amorous thoughts. So, from time to time my comments will move from the intellectual (hopefully) to the whimsical (sense of humor, please) and back again. It will nice to have that outlet also. Minnie - big smooch! Yams, seriously, I'd love to hear and see you beat the skins live! Damn, I am so transparent, aren't I?
