This week is the opening of "TESTIMONY: A Living Exhibition of Queer
Youth," curated by Alexis Handwerker of the Coalition for Queer Youth.
The reception for this show will be from 6 to 9pm on Wednesday, July
18th at Leslie-Lohman at 26 Wooster Street, Soho, NYC.

The exhibition features work by photographers Amos Mac, Gerard Gaskin,
Brian Shumway, Bklyn Boihood, Michael Sharkey, Molly Steadman,
Samantha Box, Valeria Shaff, and photojournalism project We are the
Youth. We are the Youth will have five portraits of LGBT youth along with their story. Check out an
example here.
Additionally, there is a section of the exhibit dedicated to submitted
testimonies- both visitors to the gallery and individuals around the
world have the opportunity to add their own unique visual testimonies
to the show. It is highly encouraged that you come to the reception on
the 18th because all these rad people will be there!

In addition to a gallery exhibition, TESTIMONY will have a reading +
book signing event on July 25th. Kate Bornstein and Emanuel Xavier
will share their work from 7 to 8:30pm at Leslie-Lohman. RSVP to the
event here.
The Leslie-Lohman Museum also has some other fantastic shows coming
up. You should attend all of them because they are most likely
relevant to your interests, and also because you are a curious,
informed, involved individual! From August 2nd to 4th,
Housing Works will be hosting their annual art therapy program. From
August 8th to 31st is the annual Pop-Up Museum of Queer History exhibition, which focuses on the theme of "Before We Were Queer." To give you a taste of this event, there will be a series of painted portraits of women in petri dishes titled "Lesbian Cultures." Is that brilliant or is that brilliant? There will be about 17 other artists included in the show. I have an 8-foot wide painting in the show as well so you should come check that out too!

"Before We Were Queer" will explore the "largely unknown histories of
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people." Starting
September 19th, Leslie-Lohman will host a mid-career Retrospective of
photographer Del LaGrace Volcano, curated by Jonathan D. Katz (who
co-curated Hide / Seek) and Julia Haas.

Exciting things are happening! Hope to see you at these awesome events.
