Saudi Arabia's Soon-to-be Lesbian Feminist Commune... Sort Of

We've all dreamed about it—a space for women. Alone. No men. Ever. Well, I've dreamed about it, even though I've heard of the terrible DRAMZ that usually emerges when these spaces are created.....

Nonetheless, next year Saudi Arabia will begin a $133 million dollar construction on an industrial city for women only. The plan for the city is intended to actualize the national government's desire to get more women in the workforce, even though traditional Saudi Sharia law forbides it.

According to RT News, "[t]he ambitious mono-city is now being designed with construction to begin next year. The municipality in the Eastern city of Hafuf is expected to attract 500 million riyals (US$133 million) in investments and it will create around 5,000 jobs in the textiles, pharmaceuticals and food processing industries. There will be women-run firms and production lines for women."

Forced segregation? Or the promised end?
