Rick Warren Loves Gays Except the Ones He Wants Dead in Uganda

When Rick Warren opens his mouth, its usually to put his foot in it. Yesterday on Meet the Press, Warren waxed pathetic, describing how he and God play a game that makes him rich, his love of all humanity (except when it comes to denouncing the death penalty for Ugandan gays), how abortion is a "holocaust", and other gems based on his own particular brand of biblical mumbo jumbo.

What didn't escape the interwebs this morning, however was his stance on Uganda. Lisa Miller in her article for Newsweek pointed out Warren's close association to Ungandan pastor Martin Ssempa, "who has endorsed proposed legislation in Uganda that makes certain homosexual acts [such as having sex with HIV, or with a minor] punishable by life in prison or even, in some cases, death."

Miller writes:

A request for a broader reaction to the proposed Ugandan antihomosexual laws generated this response [from Warren]: "The fundamental dignity of every person, our right to be free, and the freedom to make moral choices are gifts endowed by God, our creator. However, it is not my personal calling as a pastor in America to comment or interfere in the political process of other nations." On Meet the Press this morning, he reiterated this neutral stance in a different context: "As a pastor, my job is to encourage, to support. I never take sides." Warren did say he believed that abortion was "a holocaust."
