Rev Rekers and the Rent Boy

All that hoping and guessing for a gay totally paid off today! We got the outing of Baptist minister George Alan Rekers, co-founder with James Dobson of the right-wing Family Research Council. Actually the news broke earlier this week but the story is still worth celebrating as new details emerge.

Rekers was caught with a gay male hooker in the Miami International Airport. Rekers admitted to hiring the youth off RentBoy.com becuase he needed someone to carry his luggage during his European vacay.

From the Miami New Times:

For decades, George Alan Rekers has been a general in the culture wars, though his work has often been behind the scenes. In 1983, he and James Dobson, America's best-known homophobe, formed the Family Research Council, a D.C.-based, rabidly Christian, and vehemently anti-gay lobbying group that has become a standard-bearer of the nation's extreme right wing. Its annual Values Summit is considered a litmus test for Republican presidential hopefuls, and Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter have spoken there. (The Family Research Council would not comment about Rekers's Euro-trip.)

He has also influenced American government, serving in advisory roles with Congress, the White House, and the Department of Health and Human Services and testifying as a state's witness in favor of Florida's gay adoption ban. A former research fellow at Harvard University and a distinguished professor of neuropsychiatry at the University of South Carolina, Rekers has published papers and books by the hundreds, with titles like Who Am I? Lord and Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality.

HRC has described him as "a leading proponent of discredited 'change' therapies that have been proven to be damaging for lesbian, gay and bisexual people."

This from Joe. My. God qouting from Rekers own website:

"A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip. Contrary to Internet stories based on this slanderous article, following medical advice Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery. His family, local friends, and even another university professor colleague have offered to accompany him on trips to lift luggage. Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant." - Dr. George Rekers in third-person statement he posted on his personal site. Lying makes the Baby Geo cry, Georgie.

To Reker:  Lying is a sin.

To Reker:  Lying is a sin.  Hypocrisy is a sin.  Homosexuality isn't a sin.  Suggest you get this clear before trying to minister to others....

Went to the professor's site...

"Dr. Rekers found his recent travel assistant by interviewing different people who might be able to help, and did not even find out about his travel assistant’s Internet advertisements offering prostitution activity until after the trip was in progress."

Wow, huh, C-Lite?
