Do you think President Obama's popularity will decrease even more with the American people if he adds troops in Afghanistan?

yes... popularity will most definately go down

obviously.. most dems want to see us leave the middle east and clearly thats not going to happen no matter what mr. obama promises the people.  i dont know about you but i knew that before he was even elected.  bottom line is that the job isnt finished yet! i really dont care what he decides as long as he doesnt cut budgets, decommission vital programs, or pretty much disable our military!

Exit Strategy

I'm looking forward to hearing the President's speech since for the first time our war plan will include an actual "Exit Strategy." The key is explaining how and when we're getting out.

Today's word is "Buzkashi"

When we first went in to Afghanistan I started researching the country and culture. As soon as I learned about Buzkashi I predicted we'd never achieve a conventional win there.

The key is deciding how we want to define "winning."

I've heard that too... to C-Roses on bottom

so hot it makes the world too cold!

Yep, I do...

...we don't know how to fight there....it's more complicated than just Afghanistan (Pakistan)....oh heck fire, go in there and legalize growing poppies - we've already failed miserably at trying to eradicate the drug business. We can take the poppy money and produce an infrastructure, build hospitals, schools, etc. Then the money wouldn't be going to the Taliban and their militant ways.

Seriously, what I'd like for him to do is start explaining in more detail why he is continuing and escalating those policies put into place by the previous administration (we invaded Afghanistan in 2001). Karzai was elected to his second 5 year term in Afghanistan - are there going to be assurances from him that there will be strides taken to end corruption and drug trafficking? If the Afghan government is not going to make assurances that it is going to work towards the same end results, then why are we going to offer our citizens lives in vain?

Lake, thanks for the positive words for the man....we can equal each other out, but you know, a woman can produce another human in less time than he's been in office. I don't accept any excuse from a man if he's had over nine months to get something done!  Wink

Yes a woman...

can produce another human being in the amount of time he's been in office.   That human being needs time to be enlightened, educated, loved and shown the ways of the world.   Yes Obama knew what he was walking into....however it takes many to build the Village and many more to rebuild it.  He walked into a broken Village with many coming at him...and he needs the time to hear all of them.   I hope that he takes the time to listen.

I do agree that more explanation is needed for Afghanistan.   I also feel that if we are trying to set an example for democracy maybe we need to practice it in our own country.   In my opion we as a country are being hypocrites.   We can't preach equal rights to other countries when we don't have them here.

9 months

I'm going to have to remember that one.  And I agree. Why do we keep doing the same old things that aren't working?

The decrease...

in popularity will be from a combination of events and decisions made.   Sending more troops will not help.    I (as in my opinion) think that he needs time...I feel like the expectations of everyone was that he was going to walk in the Oval office and all would be fixed.   The man does not have fairy dust or a magic eight ball.  He has made some mistakes...no more than anyone else that's lived in the White House.    I don't know what's going to happen in the future....I do feel like for the first time we have a shot at having one.....I still have Hope.

global warming alert:  more

global warming alert:  more than 100 icebergs are migrating from antarctica to new zealand with speculation that hundreds of others will follow.  apparently they melted away from one large 11 mile wide iceberg.

I read several months ago that global warming could actually trigger a new ice age as the cold water from melted icebergs shifts to warmer parts of the oceans.  this disturbing event seems to validate that theory, in my eyes at least.
