How many of you saw the Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi interview with Oprah? Do you think they gave insight on what marriage means to the LGBT community?
I was bugged by one thing in the Ellen/Portia interview, which I finally watched today. When they both talked about first meeting and why they didn't get together there was NO mention of the fact that they were both involved with other people at the time. Which seemed to me a bit disrespectful to their former girlfriends--it was as if they never existed. Felt like there was a bit of myth-making going on with their relationship.
(Full disclosure: I've always thought Ellen was a bit of a trade-'em-in type if someone younger and hotter came along...)
I wish people would just say, "we cheated!" then we can get on with talking honestly about relationships and not pretend everything is fine when its not, or discuss how to make it work!
in regards to Ellen's trade in, Alexandra Hedison, I think she is supper dupper hot. I mean really really hot... and seems to have a very cool cat demenor, which also adds to her hotness. between her and portia its a toss up. depends if you go more femme than butch.
The one thing I think may be the "trade-'em-in" factor was that Portia had more star quality and a larger fame credential. Hedison got a boost after TLW but you know hollywood types, your parnter is like a fancy car you wanna be seen out in... My cynical interpretation, which I blame you for starting.
Disregarding the butch/femme preference, I think Alexa's hotter (except in S6 of TLW where they tried to femme her up with hair and wardrobe and completely lost the whole 'cool cat' vibe). Portia is generic barbie-doll hot and has this blank-slateness about her that just leaves me cold. Even her Aussie-ness seems neutered. But I do agree with the fancy car analogy--I think Ellen cares deeply about what others think of her girlfriend and a femme like Portia gets more approval from mainstream society. But hey--they sure do seem happy!
Totally agree that Alexa is hotter and even more totally (if that's possible) agree with your comments on Portia. I watched a bit of the interview on You Tube and was asking myself where her Aussie vibe/accent has gone? She's just morphed into another cookie cutter blonde Hollywood actress...(no offense to cookie cutter blonde Hollywood actresses intended.....) Yeah they do seem happy but I have to fight my genetic pre-disposition to finding it all a bit cringe-worthy....
A while back when we all started converging here some wondered if the stuff we posted at the old-place-which-shall-remain-nameless disappeared into cyber nothingness. Well...some still is around...kind of. The graphics are gone, but some of the blog stuff is still there. I thought it was kind of cool anyways. (Note- some of the links do not work on certain dates and it looks nothing like what we were used to)
You have to look around at different dates...some work...some don't. I re-read an interesting blog about Paris Hilton being at an L Word premiere... I had a chuckle at that.
I guess you could say a good one, 'cause it brought us all here. I like this environment much more than the-site-which-still-shall-remain-nameless. It was a terrible way to bring us here, though...I guess everything happens for a reason.
I haven't seen the interview yet (It's DVR'd) but every one of my sisters (4) and my mom have called me to gush over the happy couple. And my mom asked, yet again, if I've talked to my ex lately. Sheesh.
This is how we get our agenda passed. Out and telling our stories. Whether it's stories about our families, our military service, or the discrimination we face in the workplace.

I actually wasn't able to open any of the blogs, but the outline of the site as it exisited is funny.
I look at all those "up" categories and think how confusing it all seemed.

No time to watch TV
I haven't had time to see it because I am busy creating a project for my students to do searches on health care reform topics.
Good strategy

Exactly!
Grass roots strategy needs to cycle back around - with some skyping, twittering, texting, and emailing use to stay in touch!
