Monday Morning Eyeroll: Sexuality In Your Eyes & Crazy White Men

Monday just makes you want to roll your eyes, no? The latest buzz about the "scientific" study claiming that pupil dilation is indicative of sexuality is the latest attempt to pinpoint some bio-genetic, "innate" origin of sexuality. However, a simple breakdown of the methodological logic of the experiement—that pupil dilation was a *response* to stimuli, proving that without the stimuli/cause themselves there would be no stimulation/effect, clearly turns the study on its head. If anything, this study proves the opposite: that sexual response is, yes, a response. And, more pointedly, it is a response to external visual stimuli—meaning that clearly there is nothing "innate" going on here. 

But, this "news" was merely a brief roll of the eye. Yesterday there was news that a crazy gunman went on a shooting rampage in a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin. NO NEWS STATION COULD OR WOULD CONFIRM THE RACE OR GENDER OF THE SHOOTER. Why? Because, as we all assumed, it was a crazy white man. And, yes, the shooter's identity was released this morning: a crazy white male war veteran with a 9/11 tattoo. Guns kill people, yes, although can we all acknowledge that it's more often the case that men wield these guns? When was the last time you heard of a woman going on a shooting rampage? Anyone? Anyone?
