Adam Lambert is unapologetic about his gay moves during the AMA. Lambert points out the sexually explicit, and implied violence of other performers (citing Eminem saying, "Slim Shady has 17 rapes under his belt"). Lambert emphasizes that the outrage against him has to do with being a gay man. No apologies necessary.
I'm really starting to dig this kid.

Just watched the interview - totally agree that it's not his job to worry about what the kids are watching!!
I hate fags!
Ugh. This "controversy" is absolutely ridiculous. Glambert did the same exact things that lady pop stars have been doing at these shows for YEARS. I can't even count how many times Janet Jackson has had a dancer's face in her crotch, or how about all the female on female kisses in recent years.
NOTHING about his performance was out of the ordinary for a show like this. He's just a gay man, and if you can't get away with saying "I hate fags!" then you'll say, "That was inappropriate for children." Simple as that.

absofuckinlutely. all manner of bullshit slides in under the guise of "save the children" or the other common one: "save the earth."

CBS responds to criticism over their censorship of the image of Adam Lambert kissing his male keyboard player this morning: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/11/cbs-responds-to-crit...
WTF?
So now CBS thinks it is illegal for 2 guys to kiss on TV?
The performance
didn't rock me one way or the other ... Faux rock.
But he gives an articulate interview.
People need to realise what is adult TV viewing and time ... If parents are so worried about "the children", they shouldn't let them watch a live music awards broadcast ... anything can happen.
I didn't hear a peep from these "concerned" parents, when hetero convicted rapist, lady beater and ear biter off-er Mike Tyson was invited to the Teen Choice Awards

I was disappointed with his preformance. I think that he played into the stereotypes. Yeah I know he is all about being over the top but he was a little too much for me.
Not for me, but
I like a lot of what Adam does. That being said, that performance did nothing for me. But then, I also do not appreciate the examples from other performers with which he equated it. There is a double standard, or perhaps a triple one, and that sucks. I do think he did an excellent job with the interview. She was determined to get him to apologize for it and the kid held his ground in a very calm and reasonable way. And who the hell let's a young kid watch any awards show?
homophobic douchebaggery
Why is it that jackass phobey breeders are always asking about "the children"? How stupid are these people's kids? They do everything they see on tv? Reminds me of all the hubbub over Beavis and Butthead in the early 90s. Like a kid is just gonna see suggestive gay sex and think "hmmm, maybe i should put a dick in my mouth."
Of course, the fear isn't that the kids will do it, the fear is that they'll like it. And the last thing we want is young people who enjoy gay sex.
How old are these "kids" watching the AMAs with their parents at 11pm on a sunday? Who the hell watches the AMAs with their parents? And how i all this a bigger controversy than Taylor Swift winning performer of the year?
Dear Adam,
Rock out with yer cock out! And the next reporter to come at you with b.s. over a performance should have their face shoved into your crotch as well.
Haha, that last part...
Ew, CT. That last part just put an icky image in my head! (teasing you).
Anyway, why is he whining about men not being able to exploit their sexuality? Haven't rock artists been doing this since...forever? I remember the 60s.
Civility is not a sign of weakness.
I think that's exactly the
I think that's exactly the point he's making, Minnie. Straight male rock stars (or at least, rock stars who put forth an image of hypermasculine heterosexuality) have been not only getting away with pushing the envelope with their sexuality, but have been worshipped as freaking GODS for doing just that for decades. It's been considered par for the course of what rockstar behavior is all about. But when a gay guy starts doing it, everybody freaks out.
I challenge folks who think Adam is just "crying victim" over this to go take in a sampling of the kind of comments average Americans are leaving on Twitter as well as on news articles and blogs all over the interwebs. He has seriously struck a nerve in America's seedy, homophobic underbelly.
Okay, thanks for clarifying
Okay, I'll grant him that argument. But I still wish that when performers do decide to exploit their sexuality, they (het or gay) would do it in a more intelligent, creative way. His performance seemed banal to me. Plus, he needs to sing better.

Julia, my sense is the initial negative reaction was more generalized and not particularly homophobic, but since this has gone viral all the homophobes are coming out of the woodwork--as they are wont to do.
The only nerve he struck with me was the 'bad theater' nerve.

So tired
I am sick and tired of this nonsense. You can turn on the TV anytime of day and see sexual imagery and as long as it's hetero no one complains. But if it's queer it has to have warnings, disclaimers and can only be viewed long after the breeders have gone to sleep.
Adam Lambert shouldn't have to apologize for his performance or anything else.
Right on Adam !!
I adore his honesty. And yes, there's a huge double standard in our mendacious, puritanical society.... Damn, Top 40 radio stations couldn't play, "I Kissed a Girl" enough, and millions of young girls and boys dug on that song. So here's the real deal - he kissed a boy, and he liked it!
Something tells me that the kids watching could handle it, it's the adults that freak out....
Like he said, he's a performer... I think he was awesome.
He's young...he's out....he's proud....
I understand, but personally didn't like the b'job gesture....but then, I don't like to...ewwww....never mind! He can kiss whoever he wants to - on tv or no!
Get over yourselves tv execs - you know you loved it!

View from the cheap seats...
Dear Adam,
Just because there is a double standard, does not mean that it is a good idea to take your career as a performer in this direction. Be smarter and more creative, okay?

Mins, it appears we're on the same wavelength today about Lambert.
Just to clarify
Just to be clear, I don't mind that he kissed the band member. Kissing is qualitatively different than simulating oral sex.
Civility is not a sign of weakness.
Me too!
Same here (see my comment below). But the fact is, most of the objections are NOT about him kissing a guy--he's just making out like it is, playing the victim card.
Please
Don't blame the child for the intolerance

Ugh
The kiss is one issue but the sex simulation is another. Lambert is conflating the two, and crying victim on both fronts, which I don't appreciate as a gay woman. I found his performance utterly banal and shockingly conventional on all levels--I won't be showing any solidarity for this poser.

I might have to buy his album just to show solidarity. (I did the same thing with the Dixie Chicks and found out I actually liked them.)

Perez Hilton just posted a blog decrying CBS's hypocracy in their interview with Adam this morning. Apparently they showed the Madonna/Britney kiss from the VMAs a few years back, but blurred out and censored Adam's same-sex kiss from Sunday's AMAs when they ran that clip right afterward. Fail!
