L Word Fan donates 1 million to Breast Cancer Foundation by Grace Moon 12/13/07

In honor of the portrayal by Erin Daniels and Leshia Hailey during the breast cancer storyline in Season 3 of The L Word, an anonymous donor has given one million dollars to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.

The anonymous donation will establish The Erin Daniels and Leisha Hailey Fund for Breast Cancer. In addition to the one million, the donor will match dollar for dollar any further contribution made to the fund. The money will go to advancing research with the goal to eradicate breast cancer in our lifetime.

"This is one of those times. I am overwhelmed that my portrayal of Dana's story has inspired such an act of kindness and generosity, and elated to be a part of it. I am thankful that so many women will be given hope due to Dr. Love's program," said Erin Daniels regarding the fund.

Though the anonymous donor had met Dr. Love back in the mid-80's she was inspired to get involved after seeing Dr. Love on The L Word. In that particular episode Dr Love, playing herself discussed with the characters, Dana and Alice how breast cancer can be eradicated through an intraductal approach, a way of fighting breast cancer before it can become deadly.

Statistically breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women between the ages of 15 to 54. Currently there are 250,000 women in the United States 40 and under living with breast cancer.
