An Interfaith Interview with the Lesbian Overtones 12/17/07
Our favorite leading and loving ladies of lesbian a cappella, Treasure and Terry Tone, of The Lesbian Overtones, sat down with their friends at Velvetpark to discuss their favorite things about the Holidays. On the cusp of closing night for their wildly popular a cappella musical “The Lesbian Overtones’ (Interfaith!) Holiday Spectacular” they were primed to share their seasonal feelings.
Terry: Well I have a lot to say about the holidays, but Treasure, why don’t you start? Your eyes are gleaming with excitement!
Treasure: Oh Terry, that’s so sweet. Well, okay…you see friends and fellow ladies, the holidays tap into dual passions of mine that frankly and wetly overwhelm all others (with the exception of my lover, Terry, who subverts, transcends, and tips me over the velvet boundaries of the category of "passion").
Terry: Aw thanks, bunny.
Treasure: My holiday passions are an ocean—and I give a great deal of credence to metaphors as they reflect the intrinsically dual nature of my Gemini self—a sensuous body of water filled with fashion and glorious music. Nearing the heights of a building wave of song, I can close my eyes, my hands drifting instinctively to one or more of my erogenous zones, and visualize that profound ocean. Every color of the rainbow churns in its depths and they are all, every one of them, so beautiful! With the textures of vintage lamée, taut spandex, functional polyesters, and vertically integrated manufactured jersey, they ripple and chop and caress my body, a boat made buoyant with vibrating sound. And the music, a tinkling, booming force, blends into the weave of the garments which envelope me, slipping on and off of my body: clothes are as seasonal as the tides! And this is when I see/hear her—riding a wave of seductive tones and supple leathers and dark yet tastefully faded denims—my Terry, as near to me in the music as she is when we are most intimate.
Terry: Hon, I don’t think they need to know about when we’re “most intimate.”
Treasure: But it’s then and only then that the true dove of peace descends upon me to say that the flood is nearing its end! And makes of herself a fresh holiday accessory!
Terry: Oh, is that why you wear that bird in your hair, bunny? I always wondered—
Treasure: When this experience occurs in front of a vibrant audience of women at our Holiday Spectacular, their energy drives the notes and sensations of the music to a precision that brings me new pleasure and excitement. And new joy and faith in the hope of the season!
Terry: Wow, babe! I’m so glad you went to college. If I had been lucky enough to attend a four year liberal arts college instead of spending my late adolescence trimming shrubbery and earning just enough money to pay for my pomade I might also be able to express myself that eloquently. But the past is the past, except for the fact that I still trim shrubbery for a living, and while I may not be as good at articulating myself as you, bunny, I’m proud as all get out to be your partner. You make the holiday season sparkle, literally. Sometimes it seems that no matter how often I wash my face, I still have a speck of your glitter somewhere.
Treasure: Wearing glitter is symbolic of our need to produce light throughout the darkness of the midwinter holidays!
Terry: Again! Your eloquence amazes me! You know, having someone around to shower with gifts, as well as someone to lick the envelopes of my Interfaith Holiday Greeting cards is what I love most about the holidays. Every year when we perform the Holiday Spectacular, thousands of fans come out to hear us sing. But goshdarnit, bunny, even if we weren’t so wildly popular, I’d still perform the entire musical just for you!
Treasure: I think that’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me, Terry! But I’m so happy we have one more show left so that we can share our love of Interfaith Holiday music with the fans together!
Terry: Friends and fans! You are invited to our closing night show and pre-show wine and cheese reception! We’ll see you at 9pm for the reception and 10:30pm for the final show of the year! Holiday Blessings from myself and Treasure!
Treasure: Oh yes, Holiday Sparkle to everyone!

Congrats on the show ladies! I wish I could have been there to experience the holiday extravaganza and to hear. Treasure: I'm sure you sound like Sleeping Beauty entering the enchanted forest!
