Hate Crimes: More Atrocious Acts of Violence

Now lets turn to Lincoln, Nebraska where a 33-year-old woman was attacked at home by three masked individuals on Sunday morning. She bound with zip ties then mutilated with the words "dyke", "cunt" and "fag" carved into her flesh.

This news headline from LGBTQ Nation on our sidebar caught my attention this morning, and I though it worth reposting to the front, lest you forgot about gay bashing amidst all this talk of gun violence. The perps set her house on fire and spray painted "We found u dyke" in her basement where they left her to burn. The woman was able to crawl out of her house and to the safety of a neighbor. F the What?

Nebraska has a hate crimes statue similar to the Federal Government's, and Lincoln passed an LGBT rights ordinance this past May which protects queers from discrimination in housing and employment. Lincoln Police are treating this attack as a hate crime (though I don't see how you couldn't) while they continue to search for the suspects.

500 people turned out Sunday night on the Capitol in Lincoln to stand vigil for the woman who is currently in staying an emergency shelter after being treated at a local hospital. The woman was an active and out member of the LGBT community in Lincoln, and the vigil was organized by a friend.
