James Carville and Liz Cheney go at it over Sarah Palin's intellect, health care and President Obama's birth certificate. Why does it seem like the Cheney fruit doesn't fall far from the tree? Palin/Cheney 2012, anyone?
Carville (along with a young George Stephanopoulos) was a top strategist on Bill Clinton's Presidential Campaigns. His antics are documented in a behind-the-scenes film, The War Room, recommended viewing for any political wonks out there.

Republican's
are losing the plot.
What is their healthcare plan? ... they don't have one. They couldn't care less that people out there are suffering.
The pathetic thing is, the woman who hysterically questioned Obama's birth certificate is probably in the 'blue collar' group - directly affected by the health system.
The poor can (hopefully) go to a low cost clinic or hospital when desperate. The rich can pay for the best ... but it's the people in the middle who are stuck.
As for these new 'feminists' ... It makes me laugh (and throw up) that a few years ago, you couldn't have got these people to say the word 'feminist' ... now they have embraced it, twisted it around and are doing their best to redefine it.
New "Feminism"
These same so-called feminists are the ones taking their daughters out of Girl Scouts because they view it as a "liberal feminist organization" for allowing homosexuals and atheists to participate. They're more frightening than outright chauvinists in my opinion....
LOL
And here they were, so clueless all those years I was the leader of my queer daughter's troupe. Goes to show, you just never know who you're embracing.
Healthcare? The lobbyists own Washington.....
Whether democrat or republican, it appears that their plan is to allow the insurance companies to control the healthcare that Americans receive. Unfortunately, Obama has allowed the insurance companies a place at the table, they have been allowed a voice....a voice when so many Americans have no voice in their own care. The wolf should not be guarding the hen house...
I would feel better if the democrats were more pro-active, and sincere, about wanting to change the way Americans receive their healthcare. If they cared, they would be creating a system where the 'average' American is allowed the opportunity to participate in the same healthcare coverage system that our elected officials, and their families, enjoy at tax payer expense.
The same politicians who are decrying the governments involvement in a 'public' system, use that very system for themselves. However, it seems that they are backing off any real, definitive changes for the American public. The insurance companies have been controlling our elected officials... the lobbyists are running the hearings. It's disgusting how corporations control politicians...
Hummmm...... I remember Obama saying that lobbyists wouldn't own the White House. Well, on the healthcare issue, their influence has been so overpowering it's absolutely embarrassing.
Being healthy should not be a privilege. Every American should have the same healthcare coverage that our elected officials enjoy..... if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for the people who have elected their sorry asses.
I don't see a problem
I don't see a problem with having the insurance companies represented in the discussions. Its not as if they can just snap their fingers and totally recreate the system, having it change over seamlessly in a day. You have to know and entity or a problem in all of its dimensions before you can change it.
I agree Tae. The fact is,
I agree Tae. The fact is, the insurance companies weren't at the table when Clinton tried to do healthcare, and look what happened--they torpedoed it. So whether they're at the table or not, they are going to influence the outcome, and I think it's savvy of the Obama administration to bring them in so they can keep an eye on them. What's that saying? 'Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.'
Also, you're right--we're not going to suddenly become Canada overnight. Healthcare reform will take YEARS to phase in--when push comes to shove even though Americans want something different they are afraid of change. On some level they'd rather have the devil they know than the one they don't know. I think starting with a modestly-sized public option is the right way to go--let people judge for themselves whether the government plan can compete with their private plan. And let's see if 'market forces' can in fact produce a better private product.
LBDL
OH HELL YES, EXACTLY!
Putting the L in "lunatic fringe"
I was trying to decide who's crazier - the PUMAs or the "birthers." But then I realized there's enough overlap between the groups that we don't have to decide.
And Joan Walsh of Salon.com is right. Liz Cheney might not believe it, but she's using the birther issue to stir up the wingnuts in her party. Exactly the way Palin used her "palling around with terrorists" line of crap.

She's got her father's smirk & his double talk too:
feminists are sexists because they are against a woman who is trying to balance career and home life ("huh??")
leadership in the democratic party is having a lot more problem than the republican party whose front runner is Sarah Palin. (double "huh??")
The reason people in the republican party are saying that President Obama is a Kenyan and not an American citizen (though she's not one of those people mind you) is because they are uncomfortable with an American president who doesn't defend America. (triple "huh??")
Her remarks reminded me of 2 Abbott & Costello skits, The two tens for a five scam & who's on first. You can enjoy the combo at:

Wow.
Liz Cheney is almost as ridiculous as Palin is, plus she's rude. Calling Palin a "Republican strong woman" and maintaining that THAT is the reason feminists don't like her... I love strong women, even Republican ones so long as they aren't ridiculous and immature. Cheney also claims that the GOP has the ideas to return us to the right path?!?! And that Obama is afraid to defend America overseas?!? Holy talking points, Batman.
