To celebrate Mother's Day, our friend Sabrina Artel has given us a radio show she originally created for WAMC's 51%-The Women's Perspective to be aired on Mother's Day. Along with many heartfelt insights Sabrina shares about her mother, she also interviewed other mother's and daughters, including me and mine.
So as we did last year, let's continue the tradition of sharing any thoughts and wishes about our mothers, grandmothers or being a mother.
More of Sabrina Artel's programs and projects from her Beeline trailer can be found at trailertalk.net.

My grandmothers were my
My grandmothers were my respite from a confusing world. Nana was a tiny, sweet, proper lady with snow white hair and furs. Until you pissed her off and let the fierceness out.
She made an awesome pound cake, but we never wanted her to actually cook dinner.
Grammie, on the other hand, introduced me to stuffed tomato salad, rowing, and plaid. I have visions of her chasing off the golden crested ground squirrels that she refused to let my grandfather poison. She also ran for local government after her forbade her to do so.
The contrast of these wonderful personalities allowed me to appreciate the many facets of what a woman can be.
Those sound like wonderful
Those sound like wonderful memories....
My Mother had a strength, and
My Mother had a strength, and a gentleness that I will always remember.....
She had the steady hands of a surgeon, and the heart of an angel. She taught me to give, more than I take. And, to love without limits. Mom, you gave me my first breath... for that, I will always be eternally grateful. You will always be my inspiration, and my reason for living a righteous life.
Rest in God's gracious arms......

I celebrate the memory of my
I celebrate the memory of my Mother and Grandmother today...
God truly blessed me with two of the finest.
I miss them both...
and I hope they know how much they were loved...
even though I didn't say it as often as I should have.
Thinking about my Grandmother wouldn't be complete without mentioning her 'to die for' chocolate chip cookies.
I still miss sitting down with an ice cold glass of milk and a plate of warm cookies fresh out of the oven.
Funny, but I swear I can smell them now...
**sigh**
and what can I say about my Mother...
words seem to fall short.
When I think about the sacrifices she made to support our family...
how she was was both Mother and Father to us...
It's only in retrospect that I realize how she often went without...
in order to do something special for one of us...
I love you Mother and I miss you.
Itty~ Thank you for being

It~ Your Mother was blessed
It~
Your Mother was blessed to have daughter as giving, and beautiful as you are. Of course, you are a reflection of her heart, and soul. Like Mother, like daughter..... could words be any truer? I think not.
Entanglement - yeah, that
Entanglement - yeah, that works. These days my "relationship" with my mother revolves around disentanglement. Probably a life long process.
Myself as a Mother - I hope to hell I don't F** it up too badly, but you cannot approach it from a position of fear. I think it is important to acknowledge that we will not always get it right and hope that our children recognize our honest, caring effort. My daughter and I survived Middle School and a few challenges since, but I think we've done pretty well together. I got lucky. Very, very lucky.
I miss my grandmother and her
I miss my grandmother and her unconditional love. It is unusual to me - each and every "other" day of the year the memories of my grandmother conjure smiles. On Mother's Day I remember her with tears....so this Mother's Day, I'll try for tearless memories. The woman could fry a chicken like no other....the mashed potatoes have never been so creamy....her home grown onions were as sweet as apples and eaten as such....her coconut cake had an icing that no one has or can duplicate....even though she was diminutive in stature, her skirt tail was broad for hiding behind....the mattress and pillows full of the feathers she plucked surrounded and protected me every dark night....her quilts warmed me....sitting with her in the porch swing and watching the sunset, complete with the call of the Bobwhite, were sights and sounds never matched....around her there was no poverty....her smile - her love - SHE was worth millions....and so the Mother's Day tears run down my cheeks once more. Grandma, I love and miss you still!

Tex,
Those sound like the healthy kind of tears. I am glad you have such a wonderful relationship to look back on. I believe that all spirits continue to exist as long as one person holds them in their memory. Passing along those memories is passing along an aspect of that spirit. Every time you think of her, whether with a smile or a gentle tear, your grandmother's spirit is fed.

- That it's always after 12 noon somewhere when you want a drink.
I'm sure I'll think of more but those were 2 biggies.
Thanks Grace, Sabrina, and all the moms.
