Great news: feminism is on the rise. That is, the number of women who consider themselves "feminist" has steadily increased over the past four years. According to a 2012 poll recently released by Ms. Magazine, there was a 9% increase in the number of women feminists from 2008 to 2012. This increase makes me think about a conversation I had with a student after class last week; she "wanted to become a feminist" but hated "all that bra-burning stuff." I then asked her if she believes in political and economic equality for women, to which she responded with a wholehearted "yes." In my book, that's feminism at its core.
