So at my art opening last Friday I met a women named Susan Herr. She recently launched a website which explores and celebrates butch fashion. Her site is called dapperQ, and its filled with articles about queer fashion along with interviews with butches who explain their aesthetic.
I really think Susan is on to something. Taking the time to examine and discuss queer fashion is something that appears now and again, usually badly. Remember that dumb article the New York Times Magazine wrote, "Butch Fatale" using Rachel Maddow as the example of the new lesbian? Not to drive you nuts, but the article basically declared butch/femme over and claimed that there is a new amalgamated lip-sticked pant-suit lesbian aesthetic that makes straight girls swoon and straight guys feel okay about their manhood. The best part about that ill-informed piece was that is was written by a woman named Daphne MERKIN — hahhahhahhah!
No, Susan's got it right, queer fashion is something that continues to evolve, and so therefore it needs to be constantly monitored. Devoting a whole site to queer fashion is a long time coming, thanks to the Goddess someone finally did it.
So being the media whore I am when Susan asked me what I was wearing that night I gladly explained. I think I was showing some camel toe on that up and down shot.

well
technically, i'm not a lesbian. if i wasn't genderqueer then most likely i would be a dyke. but close enough, it's official. we should all take a picture of them on and we can photoshop them together. grace, wanna go to Barracuda march 15th to see my new friend Peppermint host a drag show?
Mi specs
My new glasses from last Fall are Club Monaco Granite. Made in China. Like the Whole Foods organic goods.

Last time I was frame
Last time I was frame shopping I sawsome by Gucci or something that had faux wood temples that looked like bowling alleys. With the triangular paint and light wood. They were awesome but out of my price range.
prof c got the same glasses
you two randomly bought the same pair of frames within days of each other.

FAUX??
oh no! what about real woodframe glasses? is it possible?
after i got these
i did a little searching and discovered thare a a few real wood frames out there, but only on certain parts like the ear piece. not wood all over.
and by the way these frames are made of acetate and is supposed to be a 'green' line... however after that discussion of organics, i'm sure these frames are not really very green.

Grace, I dig the mixing-and-matching of Lucky brand with Payless--how very Michelle Obama of you!
(but beware those Payless shoes--especially in the concrete jungle that is NY--they will ruin your feet!)
Two things
1. Your showing (from the sound in the background) sounded well attended. Awesome!
2. I know nothing really about butch fashion trends (except for what I think is generally hot looking) thank you for the link to dapperQ. I will read and explore thoroughly.
okay... 3. I wish I knew more lesbian/gay/queer artists as I live in a vacuum. Glad there's an Arts and Culture section of VP (my vocabulary is continually expanding)
