"Butch Voices" in Conversation This Weekend in NYC

Calling all Butches, Masculine-of-Center Folks, and their friends and lovers! This weekend NYC is hosting two fantastic BUTCH Voices events in preparation for the 2013 National Conference, "Conversations in Communities," in Oakland this coming August.

"The mission of BUTCH Voices," according to the website, "is to enhance and sustain the well-being of all women, female-bodied, and trans-identified individuals who are Masculine of Center.*":

We achieve this by providing programs that build community, positive visibility and empower us to advocate for our whole selves inclusive of and beyond our gender identity and sexual orientation. Our community is vast and growing and we have many identifications that resemble what the world knows as our “butchness.” We recognize our diversity as having a foundation rooted in butch heritage. We welcome the on-going development of movements intentionally and critically inclusive of our gender variant community. BUTCH Voices is a social justice organization that is race and gender inclusive, pro-womanist and feminist.

This weekend's events in NYC has been previously mirrored in other cities like Portland and San Francisco in order to foster and expand dialogue between Masculine-of-Center folks and their allies. The NYC Community Conversation will be held tomorrow, Saturday 13 April, at the QEJ (Queers for Economic Justice) from 10am-3pm. The event will be followed by a fundraiser, Boxers Off! Butch Burlesque, hosted by Lea Robinson, at the Stonewall later in the evening.

Since attendance is limited, registration for the Community Conversation is required—email registration@BUTCHVoices.com with "NYC" in the subject to reserve your place at the meeting.
