While the fates of some of the most fun shows on TV (Scrubs, Chuck, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse) hang in the balance, the networks are already beginning to pick up new offerings for the fall schedule. The standouts so far in a sea of curiosty-brewin' loglines?
Flash Forward, ABC: Already being marketed to the Lost audience in teasers these past two weeks, Flash Forward is set just after everyone on earth blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, during which time everyone experiences life-altering visions of the future. Sounds promising, but I’m getting mightily tired of falling head over heels for all the new sci-fi shows only to see them hacked to death by the networks after one or two measly seasons.
Modern Family, ABC: A mockumentary-style family comedy starring Ed O’Neill (Married with Children) and Julie Bowen (Ed).

Parenthood, NBC: Based on the 1989 film. Set to star are Peter Krause (Six Feet Under), Maura Tierney (ER), and Craig T. Nelson, among others. Okay... LOVING this cast!
Mercy, NBC: A medical drama following the lives of three nurses (Lee Kirchner, Taylor Shilling, and Buffy alum Michelle Trachtenberg).
Day One, NBC: A post-apocalyptic tale of survival (Squee!), starring Adam Campbell, Carly Pope (Popular) and Catherine Dent (The Shield).
100 Questions, NBC: The misadventures of a luckless and lovelorn lady who joins an online dating site.
Recently canceled: Life (NBC).
Recently renewed: Fringe (Fox) (Yay!), Parks and Recreation (NBC) (Really?), Ugly Betty (ABC) (Phew!).
Biggest Not-a-Surprise of the Week
The Grey’s Anatomy Near-Miss McDreamy Wedding: At the last minute, Mer and Der graciously gave their wedding day, with every detail hand-picked by cancer-and-chemo-ridden Izzie, to – you guessed it – Alex and Izzie. Surprise! Only not. Seriously? Who didn’t see that one coming from at least three episodes back. Still, they pulled it off very sweetly. The writing has been improving somewhat this season, but it’s still lacking the wow factor. C'mon, guys. Pull a humdinger out of the hat!
Quote of the Week
Topher, on the Dollhouse finale: “What’s this? Background singer? Background singer/ninja girl? I don’t know why Alpha would imprint her as a background singer, unless he was starting an evil band.” Sigh. Oh, Joss. Don’t leave us now!

To Watch For Next Week…
Monday! Leonard and Penny start going googly-eyed over each other… right before Leonard and the nerd herd head off to the Arctic for three months (d’oH!) on the season finale of Big Bang Theory, (CBS, 8 p.m.). The season finale of Castle, (ABC, 10 p.m.). Ciara on Jay Leno.
Tuesday! Leonard Nimoy guest stars as Walter’s long lost lab-buddy, gazillionaire William Bell, on the season finale of Fringe, (Fox, 9 p.m.). The final three return for hometown fanfare on American Idol, (Fox, 8 p.m.).
Wednesday! Who will live or die (my guess? Buh-bye Juliet!) on the season finale of Lost, (ABC, 9 p.m.). Paula Poundstound on Craig Ferguson.
Thursday! Sheryl Crow and Elvis Costello guest on the season finale of 30 Rock, (NBC, 9:30 p.m.). Will Izzie survive (I’m calling a cliffhanger!) on the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy? (ABC, 9 p.m.).
Friday! Battlestar’s James Callis meta-mocks Baltar, playing a kooky cult leader on the season finale of Numbers, (CBS, 10 p.m.).

Time online has a nice piece
Time online has a nice piece about Dollhouse. Here's a bit about Topher:
"And what was brilliant about how Whedon conceived and presented him [Topher] is that he's a picture of technological arrogance as it really manifests in the world. He's not a mad, megalomaniac genius with a God complex. He's a self-deceiving, amoral twirp with limited social skills manipulating people for a paycheck. Which is what evil so often is in the world: not loathsome but contemptible."

Sarah Shahi is very pregnant
Sarah Shahi is very pregnant (to her hubbie from REBA) ... obviously, they thought no one would watch without Sarah.
Julia, I just stumbled upon
Julia,
I just stumbled upon The Ace of Cakes in Hawaii making a cake for the Lost crew.
Ooh! I meant to record that
Ooh! I meant to record that episode. How was it?
I am seriously worried for Juliet on next week's finale!
They had a lot of trouble
They had a lot of trouble with the humidity in Hawaii, but the final product was really cute. They made figures of all of the characters before hand and shipped them over. There were some accidental amputations, but the Ace of Cakes crew makes excellent prosthetics. They also remade one of the figures of a fella who spends a lot of screen time with his shirt off. Evidently he isn't too happy about this, so they went back and dressed his figure. They also tried out screen printing on fondant for a beer can logo, which I thought was pretty cool.
I've never seen American
I've never seen American Idol, but The Biggest Loser finale is the same night. Go Tara go.

I love all the "hanging in the balance shows (Scrubs, Chuck, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Dollhouse) but Dollhouse is the one I'm most interested in seeing continue. I read a suggestion online that Fox let Whedon do a 3-5 part miniseries to wrap up the show. I'd be fine with that.

Tara is so amazing! I hope
Tara is so amazing! I hope she wins!
Julia, let's dish on my
Julia, let's dish on my favorite show, LOST. I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that alive Locke, who died, is alive and watching himself in a time loop and telling Richard what to tell himself, including the fact that he (Locke) will die. Yowsa!
Oh, and I'm puzzled that the latest episode ends with Sawyer, Juliet and Kate on the submarine but then the previews for the finale shows them off the submarine and back on the island. What's up with that???
Hey, did you watch Bravotv's new show, The Fashion Show with Isaac Mizrahi? I like Isaac and particularly like sensible judge, Fern Mallis. But mostly, my reaction is, "I miss 'Project Runway'!"
In my continuing quest to watch the most trashy, mindless shows ever produced for TV, I caught the final episode of I Love Money 2 on Vh1. The final five competing for the money were Tailor Made, Myammee, Safari and It. I'm not kidding.
I'm off to the PBS channel now...
Still searching for the right brainy quote.
They canceled Life? That's
They canceled Life? That's terrible! How are we suppose to get our Sarah Shahi fix now!??
The hell with that. What are
The hell with that. What are we supposed to do about, well, LIFE? Are they allowed to just cancel that?
Oh wait. That would be like the war thingy, huh? Or the death penalty. Or the torture someone to death thingy. Mind you, we have it on good authority that that last one doesn't hurt or inflict serious bodily harm, so its nothing to worry about.
Feeling Snarky. :twiisted:
