A Big Week of DADT Activism

This week at the Senate Armed Services Committee meeting on DADT, CENTCOM comander, General Patraius stated, "the time has come" for repeal. He was stopped short by Sen. McCain just as he was prepared to deliver an eight minute statement, which left the news media guessing what exactly his thoughts on gays in the military are. Maddow made an on air request of Patraius to make his statement on her show.

Retired Gen John Sheenan testified yesterday blaming the 1995 Bosnian genocide on the "openly gay" Dutch soldiers serving in the UN peacekeeping mission. He also referred to Asians as "orientals", but that's a story for another day. To his credit that kooky Senator from Ill, Roland Burris, asked directed and pertinent questions of Sheenan as did Senate Armed Service Chairman Carl Levin.

During the HRC lead rally on Thursday, Lt. Dan Choi and Capt. Jim Pietrangelo were arrested after chaining themselves to the wrought iron gates in front of the White House. The charge, according Elevled's Twitter feed, is failure to obey lawful order, and they are expected to appear in D.C. Superior court today.

deliberate?

I'm sure they have something up their sleeve (Lt. Choi and Capt Pietrangelo)... I can't image them chaining themselves and getting arrested without a back up plan? Curious to see how it unfolds.

Isn't there somebody who can

Isn't there somebody who can make Sen. McCain "stop short" in these hearings?  This is at least the second time he's shut somebody up isn't it?

Anyway, loved all that the Major said in the Rachel Maddow interview.  Especially when he pointed out that the nature of DADT prevents 60,000 gay troops from speaking in their own defense at this hearing.
