The Best of 2011 Queer Calendar Round Up

Do you love studs? Are femmes more your type? Do you also need to know what day it is? Then pay attention because I have the best round-up of calendars from around the country for 2011. (I’m one of the calander "girls", but I won’t tell you in which. Hint: I’m in drag of some sort.)

TyK, or Thought You Knew

“TyK’s goal is to empower women by helping them regain ownership of their sexuality, in whatever form they choose to have it manifest. These are real cyclists, like you’ve never seen them before.” 100% of the proceeds of TyK go to the Chicago Women’s Health Center (CWHC).

Hard Candy

statement: “With the changing climate in social and political attitudes toward the LGBT community, there is increased visibility. However, there is one group within that community that is greatly under represented. The dominant woman of colour is just that group. Hard Candy was created to remedy this condition. The mission of Hard Candy Calendar is to create a highly visible medium for the community both regionally and locally; decrease external homophobia by generating maximum media coverage to the reality of these women; and diminish internal homophobia by presenting individual role models.” Profits go to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

I Heart Brooklyn Girls

Since 2006, IHBG has been the gold standard of the femme pin-up calendar. 2011’s is inspired by pulp novels of the 50’s and 60’s, and for the first time, models of all different gender presentations share the pages with the ladies. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Sylvia’s Place.

Madame Zelda’s Midnight Circus

Queers, freaks and circus performers are rounded up to create this beautiful calendar by photographer Matt Leyes. Most intriguing is the hobo clown. Those gorgeous eyes expose a deep, mysterious longing for love, fame… or perhaps just cotton candy?Proceeds go to Howard Brown Health Center

Cute Overload

Tiny bunnies! Impossibly small ponies! Puppies, kittens, hamsters, and peegs! It’s all cute, all year long. It’s the redonkulously adorable wall calendar based on Cute Overload-‘the fuzziest, nicest blog on the planet’! (CBS News!) There are two formats! DESKTOP and WALL! You must have eet. Act now!”

Hotties of HAVOQ

“Decorate your wall with scenes of hot queers bringing down police harassment, borders, bad hotels and capitalism, while celebrating May Day in drag, union power, tenants rights, our queer families and history.”

VAIN LOVES VERA

“The calendar is a 12-month glimpse at the history and hairstyles of music as seen
through the creative forces at VAIN. It’s got hip hop, punk rock, glitter rock, classical,
hair metal and more, with a special tribute to famed NYC nightclub Max’s Kansas City (pictured above on the calendar cover) that features members of Seattle’s music and arts community, shot by famed photographer Charles Peterson. The calendar also includes images by mega-talented photogs Curt Doughty and Peter Kearns, with hair and styling by VAIN.” Proceeds go to The Vera Project.

bklyn boihood

“bklyn boyhood is a community entity whose purpose is to provide visibility and promote empowerment for lesbian, queer, or trans identified studs, doms, butches, ag’s, and bois of color with gender presentation on a masculine spectrum.”
*The boihood crew also made Velvetpark's top 25 significant queer list this year too.

Pinups for Pitbulls

“Pinups for Pitbulls' goal is to educate the public and raise funds by producing an annual Calendar using images and testimonies of 12 strong, "bully breed" owning women and their dogs. The ultimate mission is to save the lives of abused and abandoned pit bull-type dogs and bully breed mixes, which account for the majority of dogs in shelters across the United States. Funds are also raised by selling additional merchandise and hosting or attending events year-round and nationwide.”

Boys of Original Plumbing

Featuring models from the FTM magazine Original Plumbing, calendar photos include facts like “Favorite Movie Date Snack.” Just like the 1990 NKOTB calendar I used to hang in my middle-school locker!

Oh Wow!

I seldom use calendars but I 100% agree with your comment about the hobo clown's deep expressive eyes. If the photography and artwork on the rest of the months is anything like the cover, it's money well-spent... by someone else. Did I mention my birthday's tomorrow?   ;)

Also <3 the Hobo

but most of the other pics on that one are a bit too down for daily viewing.

Fallon Stone's picture

Hmmm...

I dunno. I thought they were dark, but tremendously rich and artful. I loved all of them.. but the hobo is by far the best!

Definately

I would have given anything for them in my college years, when I was all about the angst.

Unicorn hunting!

Now I'm really jealous. That does it Minns, next time you go on a trip, I'm stowing away in your bag. Hmm... note to self, get Minnie a bigger bag for her birthday.

You peeps have fun, and take lots of pics and video.  Smile
