On Being Famous: Ellen, Michelle and Meghan

Last Wednesday, Ellen DeGeneres took home the People’s Choice Award for Best TV Talk Show Host. Using her acceptance speech to acknowledge the state’s attempt to invalidate their marriage, she thanked her “roommate Portia.” Clueless grandparents everywhere were excited that we went back to using that term.

Lost’s Michelle Rodriquez was spotted “serving her community” after a parole violation from a DUI case. She built up a sweat tearing up the dirt and hauled giant bags of trash with her sculpted, toned arms before mounting her motorcycle and speeding off into the sunset. Damn, she wears that hard-hat well. In 2007, she got very upset after supposedly being outed by Curve magazine and posted a blog saying:

As far as rumors go of me coming out, I guess Curve magazine took it upon themselves to out me on the premise of their own suspicions. Whatever, I'm not insulted, I have a big lesbian following, and for whatever reasons they show me love I'm never going to shun, disrespect or neglect anybody who shows me genuine non-psychotic love. But I will say this, to put words in someone's mouth and place people in categories affects them for sure, especially in this business. I don't know what the intent behind the Curve magazine cover was. I wasn't informed of it, I had no idea they were planning on using my image to sell magazines.

Could Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, be a femme lesbian? The blogs and news websites are talking about a recent interview she gave in which she refused to comment on Sarah Palin, blah blah blah, and more importantly that she still admits to loving burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese. Apparently, this is referring to an interview she did with GQ magazine in March of last year in which she said:

On TV, she’s currently riveted by MTV’s A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. “It’s a bisexual-dating show!” she cries. “It’s hilarious!”

When she ticks off a list of celebrities she’s into, she offers a surprising pick: the burlesque stripper Dita Von Teese. “I know she’s not someone you would expect the daughter of a Republican candidate to like, but I love her,” she says. “I love the way she dresses. If I could look like that all day, I would…in her day clothes, I mean.”
