ACT UP & OWS Join Forces to Fight for the Robin Hood Tax

At yesterday's joint demonstration and march spearheaded by the collaborative efforts of the Occupy Movement and ACT UP, a couple of hundred protestors gathered at City Hall and called for the passage of the Wall Street (aka the "Robin Hood") tax, a tax on each Wall Street trade that would be used specifically to subsidize the cost of HIV treatments. Eric Sawyer, one of the founding members of ACT UP, told The Huffington Post that this small tax could money could "be used for medical and social services for people with HIV and AIDS, as well as help implement universal health care."

Nine protestors, donning Robin Hood costumes, were arrested for impeding traffic flow on Broadway.

Vp friend and filmmaker Charlotte Lagarde (Swell, The Heart of the Sea) participated in the event and took some really spectacular photos (for those of us stuck at work!)—thanks Charlotte!

ENJOY!

wish you had been there

It brought me back to the early 90's, during my WAC, ACT UP activist years in Los Angeles. It felt like a reunion.  There was a lot of loving. I'm glad you like my Iphone shots!
