Yesterday I attended the 24th annual Lammy Awards—Lambda Literary's version of the Oscars for the LGBT literary community. I hooted-and-hollered at Ally Sheedy, who I just "saw" earlier that day on my television screen when I watched High Art for the first time ever; I embarrassingly couldn't stop telling Janet Mock how awesome she is; and I was tempted—really tempted—to scream "Down with Patriarchy!" when Kate Millett took to the stage to accept the Pioneer Award.
One thing annoyed me: the glaringly obvious distinction of publishing opportunities between gay men and lesbians, as evinced by the types of publishing houses that print gay men's work versus those that print work by queer women. Sarah Schulman speaks TRUTH.
