Serena is indeed proof, though I gotta say I find it painful to watch her for just that reason--I get sympathy back pain!. Having hauled my butt around a tennis court for most of my life, I just wouldn't want to be carrying that much extra somethin,' Fortunately she has the musculature to support 'em, but if it were me, playing at the level, day in, day out, I would've had a reduction. I bet she jokes with Venus about what it would be like to be "free at last."

Tiff.....I just heard about this...WOW!!!! The sports announcer said could be a murder/suicide situation....not sure. Crazy things and people happen. Really sad!!!
Sometimes. Certain things about it, anyway. More people than the place itself, though. I was not quite nineteen when I moved to France, so I've spent pretty much my entire adult life here. In many ways it feels more like home....
Since Canada Day fell inconveniently in the middle of the week, we are having our Canada Day barn dance tonight. Nobody minds, since half the folks round here are immigrants from the U.S. anyway. And, yes, it really will be held in a barn. In the hayloft. Yeehaw.

Steph, watching the Williams sistas as I write this--would rather see them play TOGETHER as they will later today in the doubles final, then against one another.
Thanks for the cheers for Roddick--sorry about other Andy. Roddick played the best tennis I've ever seen him play--I think he would have beaten RFed too if that's who he'd been playing. Let's see if he can do it again Sunday (Murray did have the better lifetime record vs. Roger).
p.s. yes, we all do still secretly love our mother country

Yep, when they play against one another it's always a bit odd. 'Twas a good final however.
I think Roddick deserves it and I have always found it hard to support Federer - I find him a bit bland in spite of his supreme talent! Sampras syndrome.

Am not a big fan of either (my comments make sense in my head but not always when I write them down - sorry!) I can appreciate their enormous talent but in terms of watching I prefer others. Nadal for instance! (Apart from him hauling his pants out of his bum before he serves every point....!)
No problem on the Queens - I just need to remember there is more than one

It's not all that big in France, either. I'll pay tribute to both countries' national holidays on the 14th (Bastille Day) when there are fireworks and celebrations to attend. Today I'm dog sitting and then meeting (American) friends at an Irish pub in my neighborhood. But happy birthday, U.S.A. I'll listen to all the songs in my library with America in their title in honor of the day. Young Americans~David Bowie, A Healthy, Normal American Boy~Bye Bye Birdie, An American Trilogy~Elvis Presley, American Pie~Don MacLean, America the Beautiful~Frank Sinatra (probably the only one that actually counts as patriotic), American Woman~The Guess Who and Lenny Kravitz versions, American Life~Madonna, America~West Side Story, An American in Paris~Gershwin and We're an American Band~Grand Funk. Think I'll skip Christmas in America (Melissa Etheridge) due to the season....
