Boob Tube: DeLovelies

This AIG bonus sitch-ee-ay-tion got your blood boiling? The stress of deciding on your March Madness picks got you down? Need a dose of extreme cuteness to bring your blood pressure back to a pre-mean-and-green-The-Hulk kinda level? Well, look no further, friend! Ellen and Portia have got us covered in this ‘practice interview,’ conducted at the couple’s home last week in preparation for de Rossi’s debut appearance as a guest on Ellen’s daytime talk show.

Portia’s appearance on the actual show, aired this past Monday, had some pretty adorable moments, too, including a friendly round of the Newlywed Game in which our DeLovelies competed against another recently hitched couple. While this was great fun to watch, I confess to having been a tad disappointed that their opponents in the game, a straight couple, smooched during the segment and Ellen and Portia didn’t. They did share an awfully sweet moment at the end of the game, gazing all goofy-over-each-other-like into one another’s eyes, at which point a kiss seemed likely. Oh. Wait! This segment was presented by E-Harmony.com? Mayhap I’m not so surprised at this turn of events after all…

Last week’s episode of Desperate Housewives, widely advertised as being chock full of girl-on-girl kissage, proved to be somewhat… yeah, less than. If you missed it, Susan is kissed by her new boss (Swoozie Kurtz) at work after their signals get crossed, and the ever-helpful Gaby helps her determine what kind of kiss it was with a little demonstration. The smooching is all over so fast you could blink and miss it. Hardly anything to get excited about – both times around! I realize this bit of Sapphic silliness was being played for comedy, but come on, ABC – you guys are already on our last celibate lesbian nerve these days. Throw us a lesbone!

teri-eva.jpg

"My, what lovely teeth you have." "The better to crush the hopes and dreams of lesbians who want to see us make out!"

Finally, don’t forget! Monday night is the finale of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. My money’s on Nina Flowers. Who are you crazy kids rooting for?

Boob Tube Quote of the Week
On ABC’s new show, Castle, asked to name “one happy married couple” during a discussion about the crazy high divorce rate in the U.S., title character Rick Castle responded without hesitation: “De Rossi and DeGeneres.” Positively aww-inducing.

To Watch For Next Week…

Sunday! The season finale of Big Love ends with a shocking revelation, (HBO, 9 P.M.). Dave’s secret is out of the bag, putting Edie in danger on Desperate Housewives, (ABC, 9 P.M.). And if you haven’t yet, (Especially if you miss Jericho!) be sure to check out the standout newcomer, Kings, (NBC, 8 P.M.).

Monday! Ru Paul finally picks an heir to the drag kingdom on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, (Logo, 10 P.M.). Rebel’s identity is revealed on Heroes, (NBC, 9 P.M.). Alyssa Milano on Letterman.

Tuesday! PJ Harvey on Jan Leno. Cheryl Hines on Jimmy Kimmel.

Wednesday! The Dharma Initiative gets wind that Sawyer and the gang have been spinning a web of lies on Lost, (ABC, 9 P.M.). The exquisite Isabella Rossellini on Craig Ferguson.

Thursday! The series premiere of Megan Mullally’s new show, In The Motherhood, (ABC, 8 P.M.). Izzie Stevens finds herself on the other end of the scalpel, undergoing surgery for terminal storylinelessness er, cancer, on Grey’s Anatomy, (ABC, 9 P.M.).

Friday! Will never be the same again without BSG. So say we all!

Hey Julia didn't you once

Hey Julia didn't you once mention the show "Lie to Me"? I 've not seen it yet but have heard good things about it. Plus I think Jennifer Beals just signed on to do several episodes, according to Entertainment Tonight. Yay. Smile

C-Teddy - got a suggestion for ya - works every time......select the oil of your choice (I like EVOO, really, or if you prefer a body oil then Neutrogena's light sesame formula is nice)....anyway, rub the oil on the front of your body and use it to give the massage instead of your hands (they come later).... Yeah I just picked that up. Wink Tex's EVOO is a great idea but I prefer the subtle, fragrant massage oils.

About RP's dr. race, Nina

About RP's dr. race, Nina Flowers would be my pick, too, but Bebe has a lot of charm. Rebecca is outa there.

I saw the Portia/Ellen thing and thought there was no apologizing or holding back in their interaction about married life, etc. That they didn't actually kiss was fine with me because the relationship, as a solid marriage, came through loud and clear. I'm so grateful they are there to represent.

Did anyone see "Better Off Ted" with Portia? I missed it, drat.

Ovation TV is doing a series of flicks/documentaries on Andy Warhol. Last night they showed the movie "I shot Andy Warhol" about Valerie Solanas, a radical lezzie feminist who wrote the SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) Manifesto.

Joss Whedon was right. Dollhouse "Man on the Street" was a game changing episode. Very plot twisty and one of the best hand to hand fights I've seen in a while.

Dear Julia, thank you, I felt this was blog was written just for me. I've been sooooooooooooooooo pissed off. Anyway, Ellen & Portia are so adorable together, I just love them. I noticed that Ellen is looking fit and trim, and Portia seems to have a li'l more meat on her bones and is looking really fit as well. Right on! Also, they both look SO HAPPY, and I particularly noticed it in Portia. *sigh*

Yeah, I'm really enjoying

Yeah, I'm really enjoying USoT. The writing is clever enough that I feel confident they'll keep it fresh. Especially with new alters now emerging...

peacekitty's picture

Thanks for the updates Julia.

Thanks for the updates Julia. Smile Are you still watching The United States of Tara? I'm really loving that show. It's so well-written and acted.

I'm kind of wondering how they are going to keep it new and fresh though after the first season. Watching Tara change from one alter to the next might get tedius after a while unless the storylines stay interesting. I love how the family accepts eacher other's differences. The parents are fine with their gay son, the kids and Dad are dealing well with their mother's issues. etc.

It's a good show all around.
