Rachel Maddow Boozes It Up
For a booze expert you think Maddow would be, well, for lack of a better word, more of a drunk. For some reason she strikes me as a pretty clean cut sobering sober. But what do I know. New York Magazine visits Maddow in the Air America studios for a lesson in mixology.
Speaking of booze there is a rumor that the New York lez bar, The Catty Shack, has shut down. If any one has any info can you write in and let us know. The Catty Shack was one of just a few lesbian bars in the city. Owner, Brooke Webster, ran the infamous East Village, Meow Mix for years before opening the Catty Shack in 2005.

The Catty Shack is now being floated around town as an event (by Brooke Webster) while she raises money to mount her legal battles to get back the space(?)
But the space is still open on the weekends with dj-played music. It’s still a lez bar, just going to be under new management.

Love some Rachel… but just had to comment on the CattyShack “rumor.”
The true owner of CattyShack (not Brooke Webster) was forced to close the venue after it was losing money for some time. At various points over the last year, Brooke Webster tried to keep the venue open by using money given to her by trusted friends as an investment in a separate business venture. That venture (CoffeeShack) failed after the landlords evicted her and she failed to ever notify her investors of the outcome and ignored summons to defend herself. While we definitely have a shortage of lesbian venues and entrepreneurs, I would strongly advise against supporting Brooke’s newest attempts to take any more money from the Community she claims to support.

While I can’t speak for Catty Shack, there are exciting things in the works for RubyFruit! The whole place is being remodled into the RF Lounge, open all day–internet cafe/coffee shop during the day, then tapas bar in the evening, then dancing all night!
