The President’s Kids, First Day At A New School
Can you imaging the un-reality of suddenly becoming the most important kids in America? The Obama kids returned from their Hawaii vacay and promptly flew to Washington D.C. Malia and Sasha Obama began school today along with their new life as the Presidential (elect) kids.

The Obama’s moved to Washington two weeks early in order for the girls to start school on time. The Obama’s are staying in the Hay-Adams Hotel until the inauguration since the Bush’s didn’t allow them to stay in the White House guest residence, Blair House, despite the fact it was available. All of the extra security necessary for the President-elect’s family including their two-week hotel stay is paid for courtesy of the American tax-payer. Way to have us spend more money, W, classy.

The kids will be driven to school in a full motorcade and have a dedicated security detail to watch them.

Are the Bushes even (physically) still living in the White House?
I’d say Bush is drinking at the ranch with Condi and First Stepford Robot Laura is busy putting the finishing touches on her new McMansion.
The audacity of making the Obama’s stay at a hotel?! Talk about security risk!
[Reply]
wouldn’t it be a terrible, terrible security hazard if you had the once and future president in the same house?
i’m kind of over ridiculing bush. it’s so 2008.

In the 1960’s, a black girl went to school under escort by heavily armed men, because people in the area didn’t like the idea. Today, two black girls going to school under heavily armed escort, because their daddy runs the free world.
My how the world has changed!
Kind of feel sorry for the kids, though. One day they’re in tropical Hawaii having fun, the next day they’re in frozen DC heading for their first day at a new school.
Love the family pic, you can tell the youngest has daddy wrapped around her little finger, lol.
Good fluff piece!

I would not want to be a child looking out at all that. Let’s hope people don’t go all obsessive on these kids. Let them live their young lives while their dad happens to try to run a country. If folks need to obsess, I say stick the family dog. I know my pooch would love it.

The Obamas are staying at the Hays-Adams Hotel? I would love to stay there something. It costs a fortune, however.
Those kids are cute. Thinking of all the kids going back to school today, including me (I don’t wanna go but I have to!).

While they may not be “the most important kids” they certainly are at the precipice of the public eye. I find myself on some days muttering…”oh those poor poor children” in shock and disbelief at the fawning the country is doing over them. However, in my next breath the pity for them goes way down when I realize the opportunities that they will have over other children. In reality the plight could be much worse for these children…I mean did you SEE Chelsea Clinton when Bill was in the White House ay ay ay did she have an awkward stage in full view of the country:)
And those eyes are ADORABLE!

“most important kids in America”
I cringed at these words Grace. I can tell they are great kids and i wish them the best of luck in their new school, but I think we need to be careful calling them “the most important kids in America.” All children are equally important and all of them deserve respect and love. I hate the idea of a caste system in which some people are given more importance than others.

Those eyes……

You have great points.
The media certainly does seem to be excessively fawning over them. I don’t remember the Bush Twins getting as much attention. I’m thinking all of this attention could do more harm than good.
You and Tex are right though, those eyes are adorable. That’s a great photo.
[Reply]
PK, the Bush twins got plenty of attention. It was mostly bad because they posed for too many “falling down drunk” photos.

I agree that the media needs to let up on the Obama kids. Hillary did an amazing job with Chelsea and I read that she’s the one Michelle Obama called for advice on raising kids in the White House.
[Reply]
They did the same thing with the Kennedy kiddoes as well, though the media was a bit limited due to how small it use to be.
One things is certain, the next parent-teacher event at that school is going to be, um, interesting, lol.
[Reply]
Yeah I read that about Michelle and Hillary as well. The Clinton’s did a great job with Chelsea and boy did she turn out great and well-adjusted IMO.
I’m growing very tired of the media frenzy and obsession with the Obamas.
I had forgotten that about the Bush twins. I think I just ignored all of it for years.
[Reply]
I hear that…I kind of wrote them off as those drunk ridiculous girls in college…oh wait, I was one of those once upon a time I’m sure of it. But if children are any reflection of their parents I would have to say the Bush twins and their father seem to have more than a few similarities…while Jenna got a picture of herself snapped with her ass in the air in front of a few tabloids, her father did it in front of the whole world.
But I have perfect faith that the Obamas will do much better with the girls. However I would definitely like to hear more about policy and what he is planning to do in Gaza instead of the school his little cutiepies are going to…oh who am I kidding its a nice respite.

Awww did somebody pack you a nice lunch with twinkies and apple juice?
[Reply]
Twinkies?!!
Wish I were going back today.
[Reply]
Haha, I missed your comment yesterday, PK. I didn’t have twinkies and apple juice, but the new professor in our department gave me a caramel. If she continues to keep candy in her office, I’ll be visiting often.
[Reply]
The media usually tends to stay away from the kiddoes of Presidents, mainly because they do not want to piss the President off and end up locked out of the White House. Once they’re adults and become public figures, the gloves come off, but until then the media is generally pretty good about leaving the kids alone.
[Reply]
It’s a big house … and Bush deserves to be ridiculed - forever.
[Reply]
I wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket…..anyway, there are more people that don’t like Bush than Obama - why put the prez elect and his family in Bush’s harms way?

Only if King George was eating pretzels and no one was in the room to supervise him, lol.
And trust me, while I’m never out of one liners when it comes to Junior, my fondest wish for him is a quiet life…
In prison!

When Bush was on drugs and booze, he never hurt anyone.
Then he got clean and sober, and found god (the one he folds into his wallet).
Then look what the frack happened!!!
Pretty strong argument for legalizing drugs and outlawing organized religion, lol!

Candy from the new professor, huh?
Sweet,
