January Horoscope
This month truly heralds a new chapter in your life — one that will be in play for the next 15 years. Pluto’s entrance into Capricorn (last November) changed the underlying focus from Sagittarius fire energy to the earth energy of manifestation. In real life terms, the realm of ideas, vision, inspiration must now be concertized. It is time to bring our dreams into reality.
As Pluto is currently ruled by Saturn, the manner in which we reach our goals will be made possible through a positive application of our Saturn faculty.
In our charts, Saturn represents the following: our fears, insecurities, doubts, guilt, remorse, restriction, limitation, oppression, depression, separation and discipline.
Saturn is also our karma and represents our major lesson in this lifetime. If we “get the joke”, we actually become the master of our lives because the god Saturn rewards dedication, responsibility, solid steps, maturity, and plain old hard work. No matter what our chronological age, It is time to finally become a grown up.
There are many dire predictions about the upcoming era of scarcity, the so-called Greater Depression. These events may come to pass but they are there to serve to wake us up to what is really going on in our own lives and the world. As Pluto is in Capricorn, we need to become aware of the distorted reality that has been imposed upon us by the powers that be (Saturn). Our values and methods of business are out of alignment and have become fossilized and abusive institutions. As life is constantly evolving, calcification equals death.
When I do readings, I attempt to offer my clients healthy alternatives to the predominant energy patterns in their charts. For instance, if you have a Mars/Neptune aspect, you may have a tendency to attract alcoholics, addicts, dreamers (Neptune) as your sexual partners (Mars). Without consciousness, this is a common scenario. You will always have to accommodate Neptune in your lovers (no accountants for you), but awareness can allow you to attract a higher form of Neptune (artist, musician, healer, poet, counselor) into your bed.
This same corollary applies with Pluto into Capricorn/Saturn. By using the high form of your Saturn, you will accomplish what the next 15 years demand–a total realignment of our social and economic structures.
As Saturn stays in a sign for 2 1/2 years, you will need to look below* to find our where your particular Saturn lies based on your birth year. Then go back and see if the following traits apply.

To reiterate, Saturn rewards diligence, the long view, the solid steady progression forward in life. Let’s wake up and step into bigger shoes because the planet will require leaders with fortitude and moral conviction.
While the rest of the world is reeling, we may be able to gracefully move into the roles of power and authority. As my mentor astrologer Anne Ortelee writes, when things get rough “Do your Saturn!” There’s no rush — you’ve got 15 years to make it happen. But you need to start — right now!
If you have problems figuring out where your Saturn is, please feel free to write me at patricekamins[at]mac.com, or comment below, and I will let you know which area/s of life will be most affected. And while it may seem a bit paradoxical given the tone of this column, Happy New Year!

My DOB is August 1969 and money matters stress me out. I’ve kind of been feeling that money matters would be a stress in 2009, maybe because of the looming recession and economics. I’ve been thinking about getting a second job or a room mate in 2009. Neither resolution appeals to me. I already work longer hours in my day job and I wanted my free time to be able to work out and get healthier. This horoscope does not settle well with me. I refuse to have a black cloud over this new year. I believe in good Karma and my karmic bank account is full so I’m ready to cash in/out.
I’m going with Positive Manifestation.

HI Angie,
I hear you re: positive manifestation. Saturn in Taurus really is about values and learning what is important to you. And my hypothetical “reading” above is just to bring in more elements to look at. (Without knowing your date and time, it is just an “instructional” example).
That being said, you most likely have a couple of planets on the World Axis (connection to the zeitgeist) , possibly Jupiter and Uranus. These relate to vision and enlightenment. And Pluto coming to contact them this year will vitalize them even more.
So I think you ARE doing your Saturn, focusing on what’s important to you. Good luck with manifesting your highest wishes!

I’ll let you borrow some of my Saturn in Libra, Minns! I seem to have a surplus…..

[Reply]
Hi Minnie,
Well both Libra and Scorpio are relational signs. Libra is like the marriage ceremony and Scorpio is the real marriage–the sexual consummation. Saturn in either (or maybe you’re on the cusp of Libra into Scorpio so you’d feel both) would suggest difficulties around committment. Hey, but once you find the one, even if in a nursing home, you would be bonded for life.

Happy New Year Tex!!
(and seeing as you are a cool Cancerian I don’t think you have to worry about this other stuff…….)

Hi, Steph! Happy New Year to you, sweets! The holiday season was a good one - hope yours was as well.

That sounds like a great idea to me - I was actually doing that very thing - looking for a “partner” in another age bracket - like Saturn in Taurus that’s going to make a lot of money - I can help her with her self worth issues…..
[Reply]
Well, and you 1950- 1953 gals also have Neptune with Saturn in Libra which may point to a desire for a soulmate and idealized love relationship and encountering the attendant disillusionment.
And yes, dating older or younger is a good way to pay tribute to Saturn who requires some form of distance or separation in relationship. The “separation” of age differences would be a fairly painless way to do your Saturn in Libra.

Yes, you’re right, all these points can be addressed. The thing about astrology is that one size does not fit all and hence the limitations of a general scope.
The next step after locating your Saturn sign, would be to find what house it’s located in and the houses it rules. These details will flesh out the personal picture.
So in regards to Angie’s Saturn in Taurus below,(I hope you don’t mind Angie!) the generic form is going to reference money and values, archetypal Taurus/2nd house themes. Yet, her Saturn in Taurus may be in the 12th House which might explain her desire to
work on spiritual manifestation as opposed to monetary issues. If this were hypothetically true and she has a Gemini Ascendent, then her Capricorn/Saturn ruled houses would be her 4th and/or 5th houses. By doing her Saturn (Saturn in Taurus, deciding what you value), she would improve the quality of life in her home (4th House) and love relationships and/or creative projects (5th House).
And to your question regarding natal Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, whatever sign Pluto is transitting in will encounter the biggest shifts and upheavals. Pluto shines a laser beam on the planet’s energy and requires change and removal of dead weight. When Pluto was in Sagittarius from 1995-Nov 2008, our Jupiter functions (beliefs, spiritual views, visions) were being activated and hopefully developed more fully.
Our Saturn is how we manifest things and it’s our work/lesson in this lifetime and will always be important. But it takes on more significance because Pluto is shedding a light on it now.
We will be required to let go of inadequate Saturn functioning and forced to reach for a higher expression of it.
Certainly if you have planets in Capricorn, they will eventually get hit by transitting Pluto. We can even get more specific and look at any early degrees/planets in the other Cardinal signs–Aries, Cancer, Libra to see when they will be impacted.
And yes, you can always look at your natal Pluto and see how it can be restructured, but because Pluto trumps all (the farthest, longest orbitting planet has more power over the others) that area can pretty much withstand anything. And by the token above, our Pluto would have been most affected during Pluto in Scorpio 1983-1995. I’m sure we all have stories from that time concerning power, sexuality, obsession and death. Of course, the overarching story for many of us was AIDS.
Btw, anyone born in October 1956-January 1957 and August 1957-1959 will have early Pluto in Virgo and will be receiving the trine from transitting Pluto throughout 2009. This is a very powerful positive transit that can have a rocket boost effect on the life. If you want more power and position in the world, it can be yours at this time. Likewise, if you want to once and for all, clear out the basement of your psyche, compulsions and addictions, you will have the strength to do so.
Anyway, thank you for such astrologically savvy questions!
[Reply]
whoa! food for astrological thought! thanks to YOU for sharing your insights.
[Reply]
I don’t mind at all that you use me as an example! Thank you for breaking it down for me.
“Yet, her Saturn in Taurus may be in the 12th House which might explain her desire to work on spiritual manifestation as opposed to monetary issues. You are right on. I do have the desire to work on spiritual manifestations over monetary issues. I want to work on things that I value the most. And its funny that you mention improving the quality of life in my home. I haven’t felt grounded since I moved to Chicago 16 months ago and part of it is because I haven’t made my apartment my home. Its just an empty apartment with the bare necessities. I need a real home. (That’s where the creative project would come in.) I am in desperate need for romance so I want to work on putting myself out there and learn to date. I also need to make an effort to meet people and make new friends.
Thanks for the input and the “therapy session.” It is most appreciated. I am looking forward to this year.
Wishing you and the VP gang a wonderful New Year!
Peace,
Angie

Thank you, Patrice. I love your readings btw and I share them with friends.
My exact DOB is August 20, 1969 born at 4:20 PM.
I find horoscopes, astrology and sextrology so interesting. Can you recommend any literature for this novice?
I have felt that this is the year for more enlightenment and rebirths of sorts. Money matters just get in the way so I don’t like to focus on that. But you have to do what you have to do in order to have peace of mind and balance. I’m working on that.
Thank you!

HI Ladies,
If you want to find out more about where your Saturn is (what house) and what areas of life it will influence, I need your birth date, TIME and location of birth. And if you prefer that this information remain private, please feel free to write me at patricekamins@mac.com and I will get back to you.
So rovermom, your supposed insecurities about your ideas would not have to pervade your entire existence but could show up in certain areas of life, such as work or with siblings. Depends on the location in the chart.
And remember, in a way, it isn’t the truth (i.e. you’re NOT stupid) but that might be your perception of yourself.
Take care!
[Reply]
Oh, and Saturn/Neptune in the 4th house, that’s a tough one experientially. Definitely the signature of a difficult childhood, possibly punctuated by loss and longing. Also, an inadequate role model/father figure (Saturn retrograde).
However, on a positive note, this placement points to integrating the anima and the animus (an evolutionary astrology 4th house concept) and this ability improves with age. Likewise, depending on what degree your Saturn placement is,
you will be experiencing your 2nd Saturn return in a few years. It is obvious that you have
become a teacher in this area–the integration of self and ability to birth your own identity based on your own needs and not those of the collective. Sorry to get mushy on you but I think it’s fantastic!

I’ll let you do me…

I was born November 20, 1971, in Easton (Northampton County), Pa - 12:25pm. Mom had me for lunch, on a nice Saturday afternoon, right before Thanksgiving.
I always felt stupid, well, basically because even as a child my communication was different. I stuttered and couldn’t pronounce words - and my mind goes so fast that…it just doesn’t come out right. Even till this day it takes a lot to speak clearly. But being frustrated with communicating, speech and English in general, I basically said fuck you to anything English - and just concentrated on my art.
I never thought of myself as a writer - and probably never will. But I have a deep boiling urge to express - and in art, there are no rules. One let’s their inner energy, their soul, speak. I’m off the cuff like that.
Some how, between where my “soul” speaks and it coming out my mouth….the translation is lost. And this world, America, bases intelligence on the person’s ability of English.
My perception…or feelings, is based on how I’ve been treated.
I do understand there is a thing about free will…so I get the “in a way it isn’t truth”. We are presented with facts of energy and how the outcome could play out, and at least 2 choices…
You take care as well..
ps,
But I do have a question. I go through these cycles of looking inward…spiritual. Well. I know the winter solstice of 2012 is the alignment of the Earth, Sun ,and the center of our galaxy, and a marking of a new calender period in Earth. And we are entering the 5th known time period/cycle according to that calender.
I just have always felt like I was waiting…and the closer we get, the more awake I feel. I guess I was just wondering if you have anything to say on that?
[Reply]
For someone who thinks they don’t communicate well, you did an amazing job of expressing your life challenge!
Well, the world up until this point, has revered the word. With Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius until 2012, there is a move to spiritualize science and codify spirituality. Basically, the distinctions are becoming blurred as we understand that facts and truth are not the same thing.
Yes, Saturn is going to represent what the status quo thinks is important and in this culture, true, speaking English or marketspeak, has been important up until now.
Hopefully that will change.
But of course, communication comes in all forms.
Because you were born at lunchtime, your Saturn does actually fall in the third house of communication, elementary school, early childhood so you are “classically” representing the Saturn in Gemini/3rd House archetype.
Saturn in the third can reference “learning disabilities”, dyslexia in our standardized school system which does not allow for any individuality or flying off the charts in either direction.
Also your Saturn connects to Pluto (power, control, abuse) in the 7th House of partners. Whenever you had difficulty speaking, you were damaged by others.
(You will always have Pluto in the 7th House, btw, so you need to learn how to pull in people who change/influence you in a positive way, rather than a destructive way). You will probably get more clarity around this in the next year actually.
Saturn holds a lot of sway in your chart as it rules three houses in your chart (for some of us, it is two). Growing up you would have felt ostracized in groups, not part of the zeitgeist, and dissed for being yourself. (11th, 12th and 1st house of self).
Good news here is that Saturn ruling these houses has made you the person that you are. You were “forced” to find another way. Your art is a healthy expression of how to use your 11th house of groups, vision, the future, humanitarian ideals and the 12th house (spirituality, inspiration from Source,
collective unconscious) and 1st house of identity (you’re Aquarius rising).
Neptune and Jupiter (planets of creativity and spirituality) are at the top of your chart so that is what the world sees. (Yet, it’s possible as a younger person, you may have been perceived as a space cadet). Did your father “disappear” around the age of 5?
Anyway, art and inspiration (and teaching) are your destiny.
Your feeling of awakeness or awareness of a new consciousness speaks to your Sagittarius Moon on the Galactic Center, the so-called center of the universe. People who have points there are meant to be channels and yes, communicators, of the new universal consciousness that is pervading our planet. (Pluto was on that point all through 2007 so I would imagine a difficult heartbreak or emotional loss).
I do think 2012 will bring in a major shift. While I know there is much focus on it because of the Mayan Calendar and Nostradamus, I certainly don’t think the world will end, but rather the world as we know it (thankfully) will end. I think there will be an energy/consciousness shift and those that can’t make the shift will leave the planet in some form or another.
Astrology supports this with many transits, one of which will be Uranus (planet of awakening, shock and awe) moving into Aries, beginning a new era around freedom and independence, a new world so to speak.
Lastly, some schools of astrological thought look to Saturn as karma. We may have misused or not used this function properly in past lifetimes. Saturn in Gemini in this context could say you were a very eloquent speaker, teacher, salesperson who could talk anyone into anything. There may have been a missing moral component and tendency to deception or being deceived (by family members).
This is not to “blame the victim” but for us to get that we have been on all sides of the story, played all different levels of the game and the current lifetime is the opportunity to bring balance to this function. (I don’t mind thinking I might have been an asshole in other lives because it allows me to have compassion for letting so many into my life this time around!) Just a thought and in your case, a feeling resonance could confirm if this were at all a possibility.
Anyway, good luck in the New Year. Last tidbit, with Jupiter going into your first house in April, it’s one of the best years to meet people and be seen. You can make contacts easily because you are wearing magical fairydust and people see you in your best light. For you, this will last until FEbruary 2011, a very long but productive time to build upon. All the best!
[Reply]
Thank you–to you as well!
