Okay. There’s only so much a girl can do for ‘the team’….. Now, I don’t mind clicking on an add for 2 gay guys looking for some hot lovin’, I don’t even mind clicking on an ad for a mail order Asian bride…….
However, I clicked on singlemuslim.com……. (they say they are dedicated to introducing single Muslims on line, and have over 200,000 members). I’m just not too sure how I feel about this… on a lesbian web-site.
My intention is not to be insensitive, however….aren’t homosexuals just slightly disrespected by the Muslim community in most countries? Aren’t we perceived as criminals ? Possibly, victims of public stoning and capital punishment for who we love? Not to mention our, rights as women……
I clicked off as soon as I could.
But, I really don’t feel so good about this……
I am respectful of peoples religious freedoms, but…..on a lesbian website, a Muslim heterosexual dating service? That seems pretty odd.
Just a note to, **Ads by Google …….
Hello, is anyone paying attention?
**(Just a thought…. it seems as though it benefits neither Google ad clients, nor VP to display ads that are so diametrically opposed to the website visitors interests)

Happy New Year lovely Grace and everyone!
My wish for the new year would be, that we don’t sacrifice Rachel Maddow.
I can feel the tide already turning here in some comments.
I really feel Rachel is the best and brainiest person we have. She is able to articulate (with intelligence and humour) our needs, in a way that straight people will actually keep listening - instead of switching off.
I fear whatever Rachel does for us, it will not be enough for some.
… and she’s hot.

My hope for the gays is financial sanity. What you need to know:
1. To save, you must spend less than you earn.
2. Credit card banks (they’re not companies) are legalized loan sharks.
3. Money is debt. When you get a loan from a bank (mortgage, car loan, etc) THEY DON’T HAVE THE MONEY THEY LEND YOU. They literally conjure it out of thin air simply by typing it into your account. It becomes “real” when you sign on to pay it to them. Most of the world’s money is created this way.
A housing alternative to prolonged renting or mortgages:

Happy New Year 2009 to one and all! Please be very safe tonight and this weekend as you celebrate the end of 2008 and look forward to 2009.
My wish is that each of you get your wish, achieve your goals, find the happiness you seek, and live in peace, prosperity, and good health.
My wish for the LGBT population is that we once again become the community and family we once were, and that we finally find qualified and motivated leadership to guide us into equality, inclusion, and acceptance.
[Reply]
Happy New Years all. My wish for the gays is a national leader. We need our MLK / Gloria Steinem / Bobby Kennedy / Cesar Chavez. That person should be an unapologetic, clear-thinking political strategist ready to rally us. Right now we have too many splintered organizations each tinkering around the edges for change. And too many of them are worried about offending people. (If I read one more online discussion about whether it’s OK to refer to the other side as “haters” I will PUKE.
The Prop 8 rallies weren’t just about gay marriage. Some have called them “Stonewall II.” Fine, but now what? The energy and will is there, we just need someone to organize it and channel it towards specific goals.
I nominate Moon, Cage, and the Prof as the search committee.
[Reply]
I’m with all three of you on your wishes for the new year. Cage, I’m totally with the gay everywhere. I hope in this new year that we can be both fierce and playful in that ongoing process to be recognized as legitimate full citizens of our country. My greatest wish is that no matter what happens outside of us, politically, economically and socially, that we each carry ourselves with dignity.
I’m just grateful to be entering into the new year with a sense of community here thanks to you VP power dykes and all of the wonderful women who’ve come into my life through the efforts of those who create this space for us.
OH, and may VP reap the benefits of this community of committed ad-clickers.
[Reply]
Happy New Year, everybody! My wish for the gays in 2009 is to remember our history as we fight for our rights in the present and work towards a better future. Well, that and lots of blisteringly hot queer humpage.

Wishing everyone…

Oops! It came out in the wrong place. Taking it down to Dornac, special delivery!
[Reply]
“Communicate, don’t assimilate.” This is really what it is all about. Instead of giving in to those who tell us to be nice by blending in, let’s be nice and be ourselves. After all, we’re pretty awesome folks.
I do think it is important to see and be seen.
We need to understand how those who damage us think, but not accept their reasoning as more important than our own. By making our own thoughts and ideas known in a rational way, and no, that does not mean demure, we assert ourselves as equal beings who must be acknowledged.
We need to recognize what needs to be done to make advances within our own families, schools, places of worship, neighborhoods, towns, states, and country. True progress begins in the minute to minute interactions, and culminates on a federal level.
We need to support each other. Our road can be quaint and peaceful, but also arduous and full of pot holes. Those outside our community build enough roadblocks for us. Its time to stop adding to them ourselves.
[Reply]
Happy New Year to 3 fabulous lesbians!! To Grace, Diana and the Professor… I would like to wish all of you the best that 2009 has to offer, and more !!
First, let me thank each of you for your strength of purpose. I truly believe that Velvet Park, and it’s growth, will/is touch(ing) a multitude of women….. And, through it’s growth, allow for the ‘unity’ of thought and action between women who would have never had the opportunity to share their experiences without this connection.
I am amazed at the ‘global’ effect that our ‘web’ connections, within the LGBTQ community, can encourage. Speaking with women from France, Spain, Germany, Australia etc. and sharing our common experiences and hopes within the lesbian, and gay community, is a blessing…..for this, I thank you.
Making resolutions is not something that I normally do for myself….. However, hoping for a strong, visible and respected gay community is a necessity in 2009. It isn’t a dream to desire freedom and equal rights. These ideals have been fought for over generations of struggle……We, as a community, can not back down on our demand for equality on ‘09. The right to equal protection under the laws, of this great nation, are meant for all people……
So, in summary…… I am resolute to see that 2009 is a year of inclusion. Not simply the hope to dream of inclusion. I challenge the new administration, in Washington D.C., to stand up to the right - wing - bigots that have had a stronghold on ‘humanity’ for the last 8 years, and break the cycle of hatred, ignorance and intolerance…. This challenge goes to all elected, and appointed, officials who have professed to care about, and represent all people. Inclusion, not exclusion…….. it must happen in 2009.
My hope is that, universal love and understanding, is truly represented in the faces of all, men and women, that hold the key to real change. That the inequality that has become so prevalent and acceptable, is eradicated throughout the global LGBTQ community…….
My hopes for 2009 are not solely for myself, but for all of my sisters and brothers who’s lives are marginalized because of who they love……..
Equality? Is that too much to ask for in ‘09?
Live in Peace…
Love in Abundance…

on collecting stones
After I had left the coast, my dad told me he wanted to get me something really special for my birthday, and wondered what I might really want. I told him to pick me out some rocks. His response, “Rocks? As in diamonds? Opals?” I explained that I wanted him to go to the beach by his house and find me some rocks that he thought were really neat. He sent me a collection of various small granite stones with a message explaining how each one made him think of a member of our family. They are among my favorites to this day.
I also really enjoy building natural stone walls. Right up there with pushing an old fashioned human powered mower.

[Reply]
LOL!
is it the answer to my question?
[Reply]
For me, the wheels have just about ground to a halt on the Rachel bandwagon.
Strike 1: I wasn’t happy with her “Everyone else is wrong; I still think Obama could lose” commentary the last two weeks of the election. It was over the top and unnecessary.
Strike 2: Her explanation last week about the issues underlying the current Israeli offensive was one-sided at best. I don’t know enough about the issues to decide what I think, but I can smell propaganda a mile off. (I know I’m sticking my neck way out on this one but like a lot of Americans, I am ignorant about Middle East issues. I have a feeling there is more balanced reporting in Israel than in the US.)
[Reply]
Its not that i don’t appreciate to be spank but publicly…. I have a reputation to take care about
[Reply]
Happy New Beer to you, too CS. And I agree that it’s time to go on the offensive.
I’d also like to remind folks that the voting demographics are starting to smile on us; once the old coots die off and more of our nieces and nephews turn 18 we’ll be achieving electoral victories. As Nate Silver of fivethirtyeight put it:
“The good news for supporters of marriage equity is that — and there’s no polite way to put this — the older voters aren’t going to be around for all that much longer, and they’ll gradually be cycled out and replaced by younger voters who grew up in a more tolerant era.”
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/prop-8-myths.html
And to bring it back around to the point Diana made - “be gay everyday” because the younger generation (both gay and straight) needs to see us.
[Reply]
We just need to understand that playing it offensively does not mean to actually throw hate back. Because in reality, it is only reactions - and it’s not offensive, but defensive. Playing offensively is not reacting - but just moving forward.
The gay community needs to have leaders, or I want to really call them roll models, who don’t react, but just move forward and keep going about their being. A perfect example of a role model, in our community, of offensive tactics, is Ellen….and kd (whoda thunk?)…and Melissa.

Yikes! I missed that stuff. That sounds pretty disappointing.
I did watch last night for her “awards” and that was not so good. Perhaps because it was all so low budget, but the content was bad. I wrote it off to her first year and just trying things out. Maybe I need to pay more attention to see if I can catch what you’re saying.

It’s funny for a parisian (I live in Paris, France) to see adverts for tiny houses.
Here, you CAN NEVER afford an appartment (not even a house), or, at least with 600 euros (average) per month for 15-20 m^2 (49-65ft^2- if my conversion is OK…10*10ft) of space.
So we are already used to “ecologic comfort” - in an “ecologic hole” called “city”.

PS: I posted a picture! With glitter!! I’m so proud of me! Now if I can just remember how to do it again, since it took a couple of false starts.

sh**!!
everytime I look at it again I see a mistake!!
20m^2 (20m²=4.472m*4.472m)=(65.616)ft² (=8.10ft*8.10ft)? Is it ok?

I’ll second that motion. Or emotion. Or major hormone producing thought.
[Reply]
oh, i was wondering who you were…
[Reply]
Right back at ya!
[Reply]
What did you want to say?
[Reply]
It’s more something around 14tf*14.
a meter is 3.28 feet so for one meter square you have
3,28x 3,28= 10,75ft so 20m2=( 10,75×20)= 215,1ft2 = 14,67ft*14,67
you can also do 4,472×3,28=14,668
[Reply]
It was the link for your dancer. I realized that I had made a separate post instead of a reply, and moved it down where it belonged.
Keep dancing!
[Reply]
ok, it’s not bijective and you can say “feet square”, in fact I hadn’t done the conversion.
Thank you.
*** so: in Paris, you can live in 215ft² with 600euros, at least, when you know that the average salary is around 1300euros… it mean half of your salary into your appartment every month.**

I think homosexuals are as much disrespected in the Christian community as they are in the Muslim community. Why not write to Google, and give them your opinion? Since, it is their ad generator that gives us the links here.
But just a quick question. If that ad would have been a single Christian dating service, how would you have felt?
I know those who were not Christian, would feel pressured, but being you are a proclaiming Christian, maybe you would not feel so…strained and pulled…and uneasy.
[Reply]
Rover :
Yes. I am a Christian, and will never apologize to you for my faith in God. I do believe, and I am faithful to my Lord and Saviour… Jesus Christ.
And no… Christians, in contemporary times, do not condemn a man or woman to death because they are ‘perceived’ to be, or may in fact be, homosexual.
And… nowhere on this earth in 2009, will a man or woman, be put to death for the simple act of loving an individual of the same sex, except for countries where a strict Muslim doctrine is adhered to, and is the basis for that countries laws…….
So please, Rover…. read what I say. Please try to understand the ‘intent’ behind the words, before you criticize my Christianity and faith. I do respect an individuals right to be a practicing Muslim, however…… I will never respect any religion, politically oppressive society, or theocracy that believes death should be the penalty for love…… NEVER.
I believe, at this point, I’ve said all I care to say.

Okay, this bantering has gotten ridiculous. Please stop. I don’t mind anyone countering each other with their ideals, but this countering has gotten too personal. No where on this site should anyone be making satirical comments to anyone else about their religious beliefs - that is absolutely crossing the line of commenting etiquette. I’m asking you, pleading with you, please don’t do this here. This is not the place for personal vendettas - if you have a personal grievance with someone, just stay away from their comments. This precedent does not need to be set - not here - not now - not by us……
Thanks with love,
Tex

I’m jealous! Got the freezing rain going here - yuk!
[Reply]
I’m not criticizing your religion or faith. But there is substance to being offended or more sensitive to other religions - and this is across the board.
I’m not asking you to apologize for being Christian. But I did ask you a question you failed to answer.
“If that ad would have been a single Christian dating service, how would you have felt?”
[Reply]
This isn’t a personal vendetta, but I am asking a question…and doing so politely. We all talk about how much we can grow by dialog - and I don’t think that this dialog is any more different than that of one to look deeper with honesty and intelligence.
If you think this is bantering, as in real fighting with hate, you are wrong.
This bantering, if anything, is with the intent of intellectual growth.
but I guess it was ok for long to come up out of know where while I was talking with Ca Medicine woman and just yell “what the fuck ever”…and then poke fun. That was…well, apparently acceptable to you.
but me actually moving on and trying to discourse in dialog, of actual importance in understanding how we relate and feel…and grow from that, and MOVE on from prior discussions - is actually not trying to start something, except for change.
but I see where we stand. thanks.
[Reply]
Rover:
With all due respect, I felt that you would understand the ‘intent’ of my words….
However, if this will help to clarify it for you : I would welcome a Christian dating service advertising here. I don’t believe that there is a Christian mandate, backed by irrational religious zealots, to kill homosexuals simply because of who we love……
Rover, this is about advertising. Nothing more. Please don’t read more into this than the original post intended……

[Reply]
No you don’t….and you do understand what I meant….better yet, so do others. There comes an obvious point when bantering becomes bullying with its intent and purpose.
[Reply]
This is not bullying. But I’ve seen others, that roam on here, bully.
My intent is to learn - it is why I question. but thank you so much for letting me know that others, and maybe you, talk about me off this website. I’ve always tried to keep away from talking about other members of the OC/VP community - especially when it was not in the open.
ever since I spoke up about OC after it’s demise - I was oust from the group, because I wasn’t pissed off at OC…like everyone else was…or at least I wasn’t expressing it like ya’ll.
And seriously, I’ve been bullied, and others have been bullied out of no where, by long and it - and all for fun. And because I continue to talk with her, and actually ask her questions that are very viable…it’s my fault and I”M BULLYING.
If anyone actually cared about talking about problems and wanting to fix them, and evolving and changing… when things and opinions come up - people do question.
I spoke that I wasn’t questioning her faith, but was trying to dig deeper into why she had such a huge problem with a Muslim dating site being advertised here. And in light of how much fight we have with the Christian community over our rights and because of our own dealings with people killing and beating us up and raping us, because it wasn’t God’s way to be homosexual…and those that do that to us here in America are “Christian”.
But there is a dislike between religions…and well, since 9/11…a lot of people have very little tolerance of Muslims, especially on our own homeland. Americans are more sensitive to those that seem a threat…or are different.
Many homosexuals would have a problem with any religious dating site being advertised here - especially if they had broke away from mass religion itself. Homosexuals are banned from most religious communities and have to make their own religious communities.
I thought you knew me. I guess I was wrong. I don’t bully, but I do seek to learn and understand.
You’ve been mad at me…and waaay long before this…your beef with me was the OC deal and how they treated Moon and everyone. It’s easy to take another side when your mad at the one person.
I didn’t think there were sides here. This is a community that works things out - by questioning and discussing.
I’m not a click person anyways…peace.

I read the first three paragraphs and stopped - again, you are making this personal - it is not……you cannot be subjective when you make it personal - period.
